An entertaining fight regardless though. It's not like the winner gains anything as far as moving farther on the world stage.

Arum is threatening to put the winner in with Cotto or Margarito. I'm not sure though, I have a feeling they're trying to get Junior up to 100 wins unbeaten before they put him in with anybody good. His 100th fight will probably be a Matt Vanda trilogy fight. :)
if jcc jr. happens to defeat john duddy, i think bob arum is crazy to even think of pitting him against either cotto or margarito, or any of the elite middleweights. jcc jr. is NOT ready for the big time and most every boxing fan knows this!
Seeing as Arum likes to keep things within the Top-Rank family, the winner could make a good come-back fight for Foreman, depending on how long he's sidelined after the surgery.
Duddy dropped his trainer that was trying to turn him into a technique boxer. He's a brawler, he's back with his old trainer. I doubt he's gonna go the box first route seeing as Lyell outboxed him. It's pretty funny that some people hate Duddy so much. If Duddy wins, I wouldn't call a Cotto or Margarito fight out of the question, Duddy would have the size, and definately could take the punches. Whoever called Duddys chin questionable, obviously hasnt seen him fight. He's been rocked many times never been stopped.
I don't know whether to root for Duddy because I can't stand the way JCC Jr. has been coddled by his dad and has built his record on stiffs, or....... to root for JCC Jr. so that he DOES get a fight with Cotto. The resulting beatdown would take care of that fake "0", and surely get Junior thinking about a career in sales.
I don't really care who wins that much, but will side with Duddy as JCC Jr is a hack and has been ripping people off with meaningless fights on PPV.
Khan lost to a puncher, but Roach worked wonders for him we'll see how JCC does with Duddy, neither has impressed me really, at least one will be gone when this is over with. But Duddy for being hyped semi at the start of his career has been in limbo forever and JCC has the name but not the power of his dad maybe he is more of a boxer now.
Mar,
when did jcc jr. lose to matt vanda? if you're talking about their first bout, you're mistaken. he did beat vanda but it was closer than the judges scores indicated. hence, the disapproval of the boxing crowd in mexico. besides, he was sick for that fight and in their rematch, he beat vanda more thoroughly.
I'd love to see Manfredo get the winner of this. To be honest whoever wins this fight, it will likely mark the highpoint of their career. I wouldn't pick either Duddy or Chavez Jr to beat any of the first season contenders in all honesty. I think Ishe Smith, Alfonso Gomez, Sergio Mora, Peter Manfredo, Jesse Brinkley if he could make weight would comfortably beat these guys. Hell even Anthony Bonsante of a few years ago and Joey Gilbert would likely be too much.
I think Duddy will win, but I'm not convinced he will get the decision. Chavez is likely to win if it goes to the cards unless Duddy can make it utterly beyond doubt.
That bias wouldn't effect Manfredo though as he'd knock Chavez out inside 8 rounds imo.
"Duddys questionable chin"? He hasnt been knocked down, not even once in his Career. He will K.O Chavez in the 4th Round, showing the Mexicans how the Irish can put on a Show. Good Luck John, Not that you need it. Derry and Ireland have your back. (Look forward to your reply).
I see this as a 50/50 fight.
If Duddy can fight with the same heart he fought vs. Campas I give him the nod on a close but hard fought decision. Especially considering that JCC gases out late in fights.
But Duddy has to make JCC fight inside and make JCC give up his height and reach.
Now there is a big factor in the JCC that will present itself to fight Duddy. He will be guided by none other then Freddie Roach.
I've got a feeling that Roach has set up a mold for JCC to come out fighting using his height and reach if he sticks to the game plan he outboxes Duddy.
With that being said I'm gonna go with JCC by decision.
