Re: Wieght training and fighting?
I think that most of the people are focosing to develop slow maximal speed in boxing and forgeting the much more important things such as strenght and endurance of balancing muscles. For exampel if you can squat 600 lbrs that alone counts for nothing in wrestling beacause when you are not in the same position as squating your stabilisation muscles will be much more weeker than this from an experienced wrestler... The power in the punch in boxing come not from the maximal power (wich come 0.5 s latter after the begin of the movement)
but from the proper distribution of your own weight. If you see Joe louis foe example, he is not very big or powerful but he is devastating puncher and is know for his BALANCE! Thats why i think such exercise as the evaluation line from Kenny Weldon

are much more important for boxing.
And if you want to learn something for power and atheletik performance,
read something from a real master... and not some selfproclaimt guru!

Re: Wieght training and fighting?
So how should i incorperate my exercise time (weight lifting, plyometrics, body weight exercises, etc.) with my time working on my boxing skills (sparring, bag work, shadow boxing, etc.). Should i exercise before i work on my boxing skills or after? Or should i exercise on different days? I take the weekends off and im in the gym 4 or 5 days through the week. Weight lose or gain does not matter to me.
Re: Wieght training and fighting?
Theres weights, and theres weight. Been all routes I think, for me working with Rubber for ressitance beats weights everytime, better for dynamic movement in feel for joints and muscle. Variety is the plus for using it ideas never ending, can be applied to anything ,or any situation with a little bit of thought and creativity. Things havent got to look spectacular to be effective, Its doing something creative that is going to work, without injury. Thats the bottom line, getting fit not injured, injured people dont get fit, the nueromuscular system wont let you.
Re: Wieght training and fighting?
It all depends on your REALISTICAL goals and the ability to recover. If you are going to make additional STRENGHT training i dont see the problem to make it in the morning and than to hit the gym at afternoon. Youll have enough time to recover. But of cource you must make clear for your self what your goal is and keep in mind that you have limited recovery abilities! You must make the technique after the warm up(if you make it after the sparing/bag work you wont be able to concentrate and you will learn bad form too). And as Scrap says you must train with your head. If you dont feel it right back off.
Re: Wieght training and fighting?
I have forgoten... If you are going to make strenght training, make it specificaly for boxing. That means concentrate yourself on pull-ups, power cleans and maybe deadlift. You dont need big biceps, chest or legs. They will go very fast tired, your defence weaker and dont contribut too much to punching power. After all you must be able to rotate your self fast not to push hard!
Re: Wieght training and fighting?
A gym session can be done in full using weight ressistance. Every technique and all fundamentles can be practised. Theres techniques for speed, where you can reach Lactic Threshold in 20 seconds, where the guys that are doing them are supreme Athletes and strong.
Re: Wieght training and fighting?
Can you explain alittle bit more what do you mean, Scrap?
Re: Wieght training and fighting?
Using ressistance methods, for strength, stamina, flexabilty, speed and skill. Practicing nueromuscular adaptions of movement. With the material that adapts to movement the same as muscle and joints, and can be used in any direction, with as much ressistance as to suite any particular movement. The field Im exploring at the moment is Prorecetive ideas with startling results, nothing better to do with my time, but loving it. Better still so are the lads, boring its not. ;D
Re: Wieght training and fighting?
Didnt you have a thread explaining some of that Prorecetive stuff Scrap? If its the thread im thinking of everyone should check that out, its real good stuff. Also Scrap, when you say agym session can be done in full using weight ressistance does that relate to the resistance band you were talking about? If so im sure you could be creative and use other methods with other resistance. Im going to start using the resistance band, i did a little workout with it and it was awsome.
Re: Wieght training and fighting?
Theres so many bits can be used in different ways to what they are made for. Plus what they are for, Woodys, Fitballs, chains, rollerskates, elastic sailing rope, climbing apperatus, medicane balls. All it takes is imagination, and understanding your mode of transport, your Body.
Re: Wieght training and fighting?
Is there any websites or links that you can give us on this Scrap? I know i can come up with some stuff on my own but i was wondering if there was anyhting to help lead me in my creativity.
