Re: Margarito Licensed To Fight In Texas
i know the state of texas decision to grant margarito his boxing license doesn't sit well with many boxing fans but he did serve his time. don't blame him, blame the system. having said that, margarito i believe is going to surprise a lot of people. the man is absolutely motivated to win in a big way.
people must also remember that pacquiao has never fought at jr. middleweight so we don't know if the added weight is going to affect him. even though margarito is being forced to weigh-in at 151, he's going to come in well over 160 and be as strong as ever.
in the mosley fight, margarito had alot of trouble making weight. it wouldn't of mattered because mosley would have beaten him anyways but it did weaken margarito hence the KO.
another thing, being preoccupied with his congressional duties, how is it going to affect pacquiao? we just don't know at the moment. on the other hand, margarito is relatively fresh besides his impressive victory over roberto garcia.
i wouldn't be surprised a bit if margarito destroys pacquiao. he did it to the undefeated cotto and ruined him. he can do it again against pacquiao.
Re: Margarito Licensed To Fight In Texas
Not to take away from Mosely's win over Margarito, if you're caught cheating I seriously doubt if you can stay focus such is the case of Tony the night he fought Mosely.
The fight is morally wrong and is not a Mayweather fight but it is not a farce like what most people think. I remember 3 years ago in this forum most including me thinks PAC will get mangled by Joel Casamayor. Oooh we're so wrong;D
Re: Margarito Licensed To Fight In Texas
people seem to forget that mosley is a known cheater as well but he doesn't get the backlash margarito gets. the fact is this, margarito is a real danger to pacquiao and his fans don't want this fight to happen because of that. i love it that everyone is saying margarito is going to be an easy fight for pacquiao. remember, styles make fights. margarito is like a demon in there and is going to chase pacquiao all over the ring.

Hopefully you're wrong but you're right. If Margarito wins it's KARMA for Toprank and curse for us Pacfans. Greed has a way of biting us back in the ass.
Re: Margarito Licensed To Fight In Texas
pavlik,
you're right, top rank is as corrupt as any other organization. for this fight, pacquiao will be the favorite and on paper he should win but fights are not fought on paper. margarito is going to come in absolutely motivated and will be a very dangerous live underdog.

Did "the system" put Plaster of Paris in his wraps?
Re: Margarito Licensed To Fight In Texas
CFH,
no, the system didn't do their job and ban margarito for life. again, don't blame margarito for wanting to fight in the u.s., blame the california authorities for giving him such a light sentence.
Re: Margarito Licensed To Fight In Texas
But...Roach thinks Margo should be banned for life? Shock. Awe. Why is he letting this fight happen? Forget Texas letting it happen.

But that doesn't absolve Margarito of responsibility. I feel quite justified in blaming both him (and his team) as well as the system for what has happened and what is happening. He is the culprit here, he is the one lying through his teeth, and he is the one who deserves the lion's share of the blame.

i think if this fight goes the distance, pacquiao will win so i think margarito's only chance is to win by KO which i think is very doable. against clottey, pacquiao was marked up pretty good even though clottey rarely punched. margarito is going to be throwing punches in bunches and will have his moments.
if pacquiao can't take out margarito early (seriously doubt it), he'll be in serious trouble (like cotto) because margarito tends to be a slow starter and starts heating up by the 5th round.
not to mention that margarito has a great, young, trainer in roberto garcia, and i believe is going to shock pacquiao and the boxing world with his new and improved boxing skills.
Why? He did something that could, and has, ended the careers and lives of other fighters. A one year ban followed by an incestuous multi-million dollar fight is hardly punishment for something that could literally have led to the death or serious injury of another fighter. Furthermore, to make matters worse he has boldly and clearly lied throughout the entire process of inquiry. He's never admitted any wrong doing or apologized for his actions. Margarito is a stain and I hope he suffers brutal knock out after brutal knock out until his suspect career is finally over.
Boxing has enough black eyes and is enough of a marginal perceived joke of a sport without clowns like Margarito around.
How can anybody bad mouth Texas over this? It's the only state that's doing what's right. The man has served his sentence. He's paid for his mistake. There's no need to prevent the man from earning a living in his home country. Lot of people forget or just don't know that Margarito was born in the United States. He's an American. He should be allowed to do his job.
Re: Margarito Licensed To Fight In Texas
Only in Texas folks! ;D
Well. I hope Arum gives us great undercards. Cuz the main event will not last 6 minutes. Pacquiao won't have to chase his opponent on this one.
Re: Margarito Licensed To Fight In Texas
I'm predicting this fight does at least 1 million buys. Pac did what 700k against Clottey?
The Filipinos will always support Manny and buy his fights, Margarito is a popular Mexican-American fighter in both countries. I say 1 million.
You know what they say, don't hate the playa, hate the game.

Well, here in the UK, the undercard (on box office) will be sorted - David Haye vs Audley Harrison. ;D

I don't care where Margarito was born, he shouldn't be allowed to fight until he has at least taken responsibility for his criminal actions and become accountable for them.
The State where the crime took place and which has conducted the hearings is not convinced that he deserves to fight again and I believe the other State commissions should honor that.
Who cares if he, a millionaire, needs to keep making a living (as if not being allowed to fight in the U.S. would somehow stop him from doing so)? He should have considered the ramifications of his actions when he allowed his trainer to load his gloves and put the life and career of his opponent(s) in danger. The potential damage to any of his opponents as a result of his cheating and now suspect nature outweigh the financial concerns of Margarito.
Re: Margarito Licensed To Fight In Texas
One last thing:
It's also not just about Margarito, it's about sending a message to other fighters/trainers who might be considering doing the same thing. It's pretty easy to assume that a fighter could look at what kind of punishment Margarito received, which was basically nothing, and consider that the pro's of loading his gloves outweigh the cons. Punishment for this type of thing needs to be heavy-handed and respected across the board or it renders the commissions impotent and does little or nothing to discourage further cheating. In this way it potentially affects the lives and careers of thousands of fighters.
