I'll go with my man Marquez. I just don't think he can be beat at lightweight right now and a smart move to stay there. Katsidis is a tough customer but in the end I think Marquez takes a lobsided desicion or a TKO in the championship rounds.

You know marquez is a bad dude but i think katsidis beats him this time. I see this as one of those matchups that if they fought 10 times they'd all be good and marquez would win seven of them but this first fight i belive katsidis wins it.
here's the thing about this fight, katsidis isn't much of a boxer and only relies on his pressuring style. i also believe his chin is suspect (casamayor KO) and his power is a little overrated. never has he faced a complete boxer like marquez and it's going to show. in the marquez/diaz II fight, marquez virtually pitched a shutout and i think diaz is a much better boxer than katsidis.
Once again the little K man shows no fear, unlike Khan Katsidis takes a risk! Should be a great fight.
Stupid, stupid choice... IMO.
JMM should have gone for the 4th title.
I sure hope his skills are enough to defeat Kats 'cuz his youth sure as hell aint.
IF he loses he will be written off as old and done.
Not to mention a fight vs. Kats will chip away just a little more off what's left of his career.
Leaving with less of chance IMO to beat Pac.
We'll see what happens.
Milesmascaras1, I hate to ask a question with an obvious answer, but have you ever thought a Mexican fighter would lose? I almost take your opinion on fights involving Mexicans with a grain of salt although I happen to agree with you this time. I should mention that Kastidis looked the best he's looked in his last fight against Mitchell. And the Casamayor KO was more a result of his fatigue, in my opinion, than his questionable chin.
Mick, your post implies Marquez can be effective above 135. You think so? If so, he should beat Kastidis and challenge Bradley. Khan is too big for him and is too crafty with distance and range, and a bad match-up all around for Marquez. Bradley is a better match-up, not saying he'd win, but it's closer.
rantcatrat,
sure i think mexican fighters can lose. i'm not that much of a homer and definitely not blind. and sure, i think marquez can beat katsidis but i don't think he can beat amir khan. khan is too young and fast and besides, if the fight is in the UK, marquez would need a KO to win and even then he might only get a draw! ;D
here is an example on what mexican fighters i think will lose:
orlando salido will get KO'd by yuriorkis gamboa
rafael marquez will get KO's by juanma lopez
sergio mora losing to shane mosley
ivan hernandez losing by KO to wilfredo vazquez jr.
want more proof?
rantcatrat,
you see, i'm bad but not as ridiculous as the paclanders! ;D
I don't know Mick. Cant see Pac vs JMM 3 on horizon...but god know's I wouldn't mind it at 140 or less ;D
As much as I hate to say it Imo Khan gives more difficult fight twinkle toes style & weighty issues than does face first Kats at this stage. Nope I'm sober lol. Belts are great and not saying Khan takes him but think Kats gives him just as much big local exposure, more 'fan friendly' and hard clash and If Diaz out boxes Kats...think a grey beard Jmm takes early bumps and schools him big late. From there he commands even bigger farewell, worth the roll of the dice thinking.
Fights like this are always interesting. Marquez is definitely getting on, but he still has all his skills - but you can never count out someone who can bang. Katsidis fits that bill for sure! I would still bet on JMM at this point, but it's getting close enough where this fight is enough of a tossup to cause some drama.
No matter what though, you gotta give it up for Marquez - the guy's has shown nothing but a steel pair of cojones throughout his career. That gets my respect every day.
And I'm most definitely not sober. I still look forward to this one - and I'l probably be slurping down some Crown that night, too.
Good to see an Aussie fighting at the top level. Unfortunately here in Oz tonight Mundine is asking us to pay $50 to watch him fight Ryan Waters with an undercard that shouldn't fill the local pub, so it is great to see an aussie fighter taking on high level fighters. Go Katsidis!!!
