Re: Super Six has turned into a complete fucking joke Dirrell withdraws with Injury!!
So this means Green is in the Semi-Finals! Hell yeah!
I give Showtime credit for trying, and we did get some memorable fights out of it. (Be it for the right or wrong reasons).
Looking forward a simple 4 man tournament would have been the way to go, 2 rounds and done. An 8 man tourney would take too long as well IMO a tourney like this should be no longer than a year long for christ's sakes.

How would it? 8 man knock out event would be 7 fights, we would just of been waiting for the final coming round now instead we are still waiting for the third stage of the super 6 then the semis and the final.
Johnson/Green has been signed for November the 6th so Green is not threw to the semi-final. Showtime are saying Ward might fight someone outside the Super Six on the 26th November and then it will be basically a shoot out between Green and Johnson to make the semi's.
Re: Super Six has turned into a complete fucking joke Dirrell withdraws with Injury!!
Lawson said that Dirrell's symptoms of "headaches and dizziness" began shortly after his March fight against Arthur Abraham in Group Stage 2 of the modified round-robin tournament.
"We took him to a doctor and then a neurologist. When we took him to the neurologist, he was alarmed. He said Andre wasn't fit to fight right now. Before he would even consider letting him fight, he would need three months symptom-free. It would get to the point where Andre would have to sit down. He couldn't lay down because [the symptoms] would get worse."
Hmm not saying this isn't true, but to just now come public with it, 6 months later??? I think he just doesn't want to get in the ring with ward and yes the tournament has pretty much fallen apart. I mean half the original field is out, and before it's all said and done who's to say another fighter won't go down to injury. Should have been a 8 man tourney 4 fights the first night, 2 fights 3 months later and then a final a month later, wrap it all up in less than a year. Kind of losing interest in it, and now ward is probably going to have some meaningless non tourney fight against some less than stellar competition while froch and abraham destroy each other...
Re: Super Six has turned into a complete fucking joke Dirrell withdraws with Injury!!
Well at first this sounds so disappointing but if a brain doctor is saying that he's not fit, then I think we should all take this seriously. If they are saying his entire career is in peril, that isn't something like a back injury which maybe fighters have faked in the past. I don't know, wait before we judge. Imagine for a minute that he wasn't faking against Abraham and that spasming and no memory thing was real, this could be bad.

i think i'm the only person here that liked the idea of having a tournament where one loss doesn't eliminate you. i guess that at the end of the day, it is too difficult to pull off. its a bummer, i wonder if the froch/abraham fight will go on as planned.
You've finally got it ;)
Re: Super Six has turned into a complete fucking joke Dirrell withdraws with Injury!!
Even if the Super 8 (and counting...) doesn't come to completion, look at the division rankings before the tournament and after. They're completely different, it gave us at least 5 matchups of top 10 super middleweights facing each other. That's pretty cool.

Andre Dirrell out of Super Six as career in jeopardy - ESPN
It looks like Dirrell will have to retire because of the Abraham punch? That's what the article made it sound like. Damn, and look how many people thought he was faking it.
I completely agree. People are hating on the Super Six. That's dumb. It's commendable of Showtime to have made the effort. They were able to get multiple promoters with different agendas to come to the table and create a tournament pitting the best 6 super middleweights against each other. I wish HBO were as adventurous.
Re: Super Six has turned into a complete fucking joke Dirrell withdraws with Injury!!
i think the last good tournement was the HBO heavyweight unification tournament with tyson tucker douglas & a few other heavys?
Re: Super Six has turned into a complete fucking joke Dirrell withdraws with Injury!!
Ok, so from what I see everyone pretty much agrees that the Super Six wasn't so super after all.
My suggestions for it's rechristening would be:-
Substitute Six, Six on the Beach, Stumbling Six, Shabby Six.
Any improvement on those?
And in terms of the layout of the tournament, to expect a league system as was put in place to go without injuries, withdrawals etc was just naive, but with so many subs it just seems a little empty.
Re: Super Six has turned into a complete fucking joke Dirrell withdraws with Injury!!
I really doubt Dirrell is 'ducking' Ward or afraid to fight. He's a prize-fighter, he's not going to give up a massive payday because he's suddenly become afraid. This speculation about him being a coward is pretty ridiculous IMO.
Re: Dirrell withdraws from Ward fight, might be out of Super 6
Oh I wasn't saying he's scarred of getting in there with ward, after all I'm pretty sure abraham punches harder than ward. I was just thinking its kind of fishy to wait 6 months basically to come public with this, I think it's more due to the fact that ward and dirrell are basically buds and don't want to get in the ring with each other. On the other hand tho this might be completely legit, but I hope not because that would be horrible especially for something that shouldn't have happened in the first place.

No one in their right mind would cost themselves millions of dollar and put their career in jeopardy just because they didn't want to fight a friend. They're prize-fighters, it's their job, and while I suspect they may have had a shit fight (as friends have in the past), I have no doubt that Dirrell's neurological issues are legitimate.
Re: Dirrell withdraws from Ward fight, might be out of Super 6
I guess we'll only see with time, at this point I'm certainly hoping he just doesn't want the fight cause they're buds. Having your career ended and having permanent damage due to a rabbit punch would be as bad as it gets in boxing.
