This is a tough one to call because I like them both, but for now, I'm going with Donaire. He looks like he could be a real special fighter. I didn't like Montiel much in his early days but he really stepped up his level of competition as of late and impressed me greatly. He is certainly the man to beat at the lower weight classes.
Donaire for me looks alot bigger in the pics too.
Montiel confident despite underdog status against Donaire

Montiel Team keep saying this will be similar to Hasegawa fight.
I say heck no!
Hasegawa was actually winning all rounds til he got in trouble. But I think I'm 100% sure Nonito has higher I.Q. than Hasegawa. ;D
IF Donaire gets rocked, he will not hold the rope and eat more punches like that.
Ines Sainz Vs Rachel Donaire. I bet that'd be more exciting.
;D

How come Donaire never fought in Pacquiao undercard? They're both Filipino. They're both Top Rank fighters. 'Been wondrin that myself too. Could it be animosity? Some Pinoy think that's the main reason that's why some of them wanna see Donaire lose his upcoming fight. And oh, Donaire thinks JMM won the second fight against Pac and they hate him more for that. But screw that shit. Sure, I find Nonito a bit arrogant too. But whatever it is, that doesn't get rid of the fact that he's a well polished versatile fighter.

Montiel should be ranked higher p4p than Donairre. it should be #5 Montiel and #7 Donairre as Montiel had fought more ranked fighters.
But head to head Donairre could be very well win this looking very very good and that would validate his p4p ranking.
One massive left hook from Montiel might make this a fight of the year candidate as it would test Donairre's chin and character.
in the end i think Donairre takes this.
I think his chin already got tested bro. If you watch the Darchinyan fight again, you will see he took 2 or 3 solid bombs. Same case with Concepcion who outweighed him 12 lbs in actual fight night. Donaire's face was swollen and bruised up, but he took them shots pretty good.
It's his body that I'm concern about. Montiel is an excellent body puncher. And I heard Donaire got knocked down with a bodyshot in his 2007 sparring. They took him to the hospital with a broken rib that day.
Big Montiel fan here...
Gotta support my boy so I'm going with Montiel win.
It should be noted that Montiel has struggled with taller & lanky fighters.
So I think Nonito will win the early rounds and then Montiel will work things out.
With that being said Nonito has not for my likings had an impressive win since the Vic TKO and that was how long ago?
Credit is def. due with the wins over up and coming fighters like Marquez & Martinez very good wins over young strong fighters.
All in all a great matchup and def. a must see fight.
Similar to the crab mentality. Pacquiao is on top of the world. He likes it there. And he likes it there alone. He ain't trying look out for none of his fellow fli........pinoy fighters. I ain't bad mouthing him. Like some of his groupies gonna think. It's a straight fact. I'm trying to think the last time one of his kind even fought on one of his undercards. Bobby Pacquiao don't count. Rey Bumtista I know did a couple times. And I know Z Goress knocked out the crappy Donaire in one of the Moales fights. But that was before the De La Hoya fight and before he had really blown up. Since than only Bernie Concepcion has made an appreance. And that was to Manny's dislike. Manny is a hater to his own kind. Kind of fucked up. Cuz I don't think anybody would disagree Donaire, AJ Banal or other young Pinoy fighters would really benifit from fighting on one of his undercards.
That's what I'm thinking. I also believe that he will be able to go up in weight with success because he is bigger than most of the guys in the weight classes he's been fighting in. I'm picking Donaire. I don't believe he stops Montiel and I would be surprised if that happened. I think with his speed, boxing skills, and ability to fight traditional and southpaw interchangeably, he'll keep Montiel guessing throughout the fight. It won't be easy for Donaire and Montiel may have him in trouble once or twice during the later rounds.
I'm really looking forward to this one. Nonito is swift on his feet and his fists pack a considerable amount power and speed while Montiel is a lethal counter puncher and has a very keen boxing mentality and sense. But the true reason I'm interested in watching this match-up is because of their respective styles. Speed and power vs technical brilliance. They may be far from them in levels of skill and Nonito isn't a southpaw, but I see this fight as a small glimpse into the distant Pacquiao vs Mayweather fight.
If Nonito picks up in weight and success and latter remains in the sport, I'd like to see Donaire vs Paquiao in two or three years.
