That's one good thing about the Brits. They might be genetically challenged, but they do support their fighters. Look at how Hatton and to a lesser extent Calzaghe were able to transport fans half way across the globe to watch a fight. And here are two very good fighters unable to command even a modicum of that kind of support. And that is no dig at the two American fighters here as they have been making all the right noises. Where are the fanbases? It bewilders me, it really does. Okay, not the best location for this fight and it is expensive, but it seems that there are hardly any fans out there.

Not really a fair comparison with England being roughly the size of New York. If Hatton fans were Bradley fans driving to Michigan from the California They'd have to drive from England to Turkey.

Man you guys are fooking brutal ha. Location and promotion has been botched big time. Fortunately we know this fight is on par with the best and a must see. Boxing is starving for great matches but it's selling itself out ever so slowly on pumped up individual name affairs and who talks the most shit these days...just wish I was a billionaire I'd buy the place out ;D

Detroit is an incredibly bad situation, I don't even think Americans really understand how bad it is. The whole midwest has been hurt by the move away from factory type work but Detroit's the worst.
And you really can't compare the US to England as far as this goes. There are so many different mitigating circumstances. The size of the country is obviously one, the amount of fighters is another (both of these contribute to people (casual fans I mean) in Detroit not really caring about fighters from other regions), and of course when you really get down to it boxing is just a niche sport here.
where does boxing rank among sports in the UK? I get the sense that there's just the one overwhelming favorite in soccer and then everything else is kind of in another tier. Is boxing number two? Rugby?
Here even though pro football is huge and a clear number one it seems like there are more big sports with no equivalent to the overall dominance that soccer/football has in the UK and boxing is way down the line

The Stadium for the venue sold for $583K. I bet if you ground up the cement and used it for roads it would be worth that and then recycled the steel he'd make a nice profit. The Chinese might even pay him to come and pick it up.

Just to name a few are all covered more on tv and alot of casual fans no the top players teams in these and other sports, you would be hard pressed to for a casual fan to no who the likes of Carl Froch and Ricky Burns is. Both world champs.
