Re: Cotto-Mayorga: Who wins?
Okay, I gotta say this, I am not a Cotto fan but I just don't understand how people can be confident that Mayorga is going to win. I personally have a feeling that Mayorga is going to win this fight because he will get in Cotto's head but this is just a hunch and I have no sound reasoning behind this. Sure Mayorga can apply pressure and make Cotto brawl and possibly try to turn it into a Margarito-ish type fight but the problem is that Mayorga is not Margarito(for better or worse). Cotto lost to a bigger well conditioned man who applied unrelenting pressure and was able to essentially walk thru his punches in Antonio. Mayorga is 37 and he is not well conditioned so that scenario is out in my opinion. Now Mayorga could catch Cotto with one of those wild punches but Cotto is a decent boxer and should be able to avoid the huge ones. I would love to pick Mayorga but with his lifestyle and his style in the ring he's too much of a question mark. I didn't mean for this to be that long but I am just puzzled at how much confidence people have in Mayorga winning.

Well... thus far there's only 3 Mayorga votes, and one of them is an avowed Cotto-hater, so that one probably doesn't count. So you really only got 2 intelligent Mayorga votes out of 15, or about 13%.
:)

I was nto basing this solely on the poll, what motivated the creation of that post was alot of the banter I have come across on other threads in the past couple of weeks
Re: Cotto-Mayorga: Who wins?
Easy fight for Cotto. Mayorga is a bum.

I voted Cotto by late rd tko because he has become more cautious and well rounded boxer since working with Steward. He's gonna soften Mayorga first with bodyshots and the fight will be stopped in rd10. I think he's just too damn smart for Mayorga.
PSL.... meet ross. Ross, meet PSL.
I would sig bet him if I were you.
Re: Cotto-Mayorga: Who wins?
Hhahaha!
I get why titofan has been such a little pissy pants now! After that sigbet remark I looked at his sig. I didnt realise he was a Peurto Rican. Does he think that because I know Mayorga will win that that means I despise Peurto Rico? Is boxing, or Cotto all they have or something?;D
Re: Cotto-Mayorga: Who wins?
It's PUERTO Rico sir.
So honestly, what are the excuses going to be when Cotto wins? OOhhh mayorga is old? Mayorga wasn't in shape? Mayorga is past his prime(DUH)?
Re: Cotto-Mayorga: Who wins?
I'm gonna pick Mayorga, mainly because I like him more than Cotto. I think cotto has every chance to win by boxing and staying away from Mayorga. If he tries to exchange too much or loses his legs later in the fight he's gonna get stopped by the naturally bigger harder punching Mayorga. I'm gonna go with late tko for Mayorga, I would rather see him against Pac than Cotto again. Cotto-Margarito can still happen if Cotto loses. People also don't think Mayorga can box, but he isn't as bad as they would suggest. He boxed against Vargas and Mosely, and was up on one of the cards going into that last round.

First learn how to spell, loser. It's Puerto Rico, as you were already told. And psssst... by the way, that little rectangle with the red and white stripes and the lone star.... that's the Puerto Rican flag. You should've been paying more attention in 5th grade.
But you're welcome to come over and I'll show you around... give you a little lesson in geography. Just get a note from your mommy so you don't get in trouble, ok?
;)
Re: Cotto-Mayorga: Who wins?
Gotta go with Cotto. They say skill beats will and Cotto on his worst day is miles ahead of Mayorga in skill and for that matter will...Mayorga has become accustomed to losing the big ones and playing his role to a tee. Been there-done that and just spell my name right on the check Mr. Arum :-X
Mayorgas only chance is to blitz him early. He has to shoot his load and know Cotto himself is boardering on spent shell status. Make him see ghosts. He's big, very physical and just don't give a fook but you really don't get to Cotto early, ya have to last and wear him out. Mayorga don't have the stamina or focus late.
Re: Cotto-Mayorga: Who wins?
I'm woefully bad at picking fights but for what its worth I think Cotto softens up Mayorga early on the way to a mid round stoppage.
Re: Cotto-Mayorga: Who wins?
I had a dream last night: seriously. Mayorga knocks Cotto down in the early 3rd round, like 20 seconds in. It's more of a balance knock down, but the punch connected and the ref gives Cotto an 8 count with Cotto smirking and smiling to say he's OK. Mayorga hams it up raising his arms. When the action resumes, Cotto throws a haymaker because he's mad at the whole thing and mad at Mayorga's behaviors. The haymaker misses, and Mayorga throws a weird-angled shot that really does put cotto down to his knees against the ropes. It's not a KO punch, and cotto grabs the top rope to help pull himself up, as the ref reaches a 4-count. Cotto easily beats the count but now is a bit buzzed. In my dream, a wild Mayorga then spins Cotto around and during a call for them to break by the ref, MAYORGA HITS COTTO BEHIND THE HEAD AND IS DQ'ed. I'm not changing my prediction about Mayorga winning by KO, Im only relating the dream I had last night. Mayorga shoots himself in the foot with a dirty foul and gets disqual'ed. in the 3rd.
