Re: Prime Eubanks vs jones jr??
Funny this thread popped up when I first joined this place. I've come full circle :D
Roy was Superman. No fighter around in his prime beats him. No way.
Re: Prime Eubanks vs jones jr??
I would say Jones, just. I think people underestimate Eubank, he was a beast

Herol Graham said he was only knocked down, and apart from that he gave Chris Eubank a boxing lesson in sparring apparently.

Agree with this statement !
Eubanks chin was awesome, his heart and willing to pull through was immense, his fights with Carl Thompson proved as much!
Collins get's owned by Jones. Imo Benn gives Jones the hardest fight in their pomp. Very few gave Benn a chance against DeWitt, but proved he could into the lions den and take the title.
Benn was a bit of an Enigma. Destroyed Barkley in 1 round, excellent against DeWitt, we all know what haappended against McClellan, but then awful against Watson and Malinga for example.
The possessed Benn that fought McClellan would take some beating, but I still think Jones would take him to pieces
Agree that RJJ no way stop Eubank. He would win every round though imo.
Benn and Eubank is one of my favourite eras in any weight division, but apart from Benn beating McClellan, neither have a truly great name on their resume.
They both lose to McCallum, Toney, Nunn or RJJ imo
Yea Enigma is one word ya could use to describe Benn. The Malinga loss was a real shocker, and to be fair Watson was a fantastic boxer and was beating Eubank before that awful finish. The Benn that fought McClellan would of pushed Jones Jnr, wheather it would of been enough to win.... well thats anyones guess, but im sure we would all agree it would of been one hell of a fight while it lasted ;)
How was the Thulani Malinga loss a shocker ? Nigel Benn was lucky to get the decision against Thulani Malinga when he was at his peak.
Re: Prime Eubanks vs jones jr??
Benn at his peak against Malinga? Don't be silly. This was after the career ending war with McClellan.
Graham schooled Eubank. Eubank sparked Graham. Whatever you choose to believe...

Fenster i meant the 1st fight, which is why i said Nigel Benn was lucky to get the decision. It was actually a bit like the Michael Watson fight, Thulani Malinga covered up in a peek a boo like defence as Michael Watson did. And countered punched very effectively on and off the ropes.

Oh right, I'll let you off. It was a close-ish fight but not a shocking robbery or anything like that.
Was it that fight Benn floored him?

What, Benn lost a SD to Malinga, so how was he lucky to get the decision
Benn had not lost a bout for about 5-6 years before that loss, Eubank i believe was the loss before that one. So to lose to Malinga, who was not at all rated by many was a shocker imo. I guess you rate Malinga as a world beater then ?
Im guessing ya refering to the the bout in 92 which Benn won, then once again I stick to my guns and say it was a shocker to lose to him later in his career ;)

Nah it was the 2nd fight he floored him mate, the 1st fight wasn't a robbery but i did feel Thulani Malinga edged it. His counter punching was top notch in that fight, very underrated was Thulani Malinga who also beat Robin Reid when he was like 40+.

Nigel Benn was showing signs though of slowing down, after the Gerald McClellan fight. Because he was getting rocked by fighter's like Danny Perez. But i did like Nigel Benn's entrance music for that fight, been meaning to find out the song. And the infamous Tony Tucker walking him to the ring ;)
Re: Prime Eubanks vs jones jr??
WOW, people seem to be forgetting how good Chris Eubank was??
Eubank's perception of space, speed out of the pocket and incredible reflexes make this an extremely difficult task for Jones Jr. Remember Jones Jr said himself in '93 that Eubank was the one guy who'd give him real problems.
It would be exceptionally dangerous for Jones Jr to leap in with the hook from outside much against Eubank, as was his forte, because Eubank had about the sneakiest counter overarm right I've ever seen. I do fancy Roy to out-work him though, trebling and quadrupling hooks whenever inside.

That sums up your knowledge of boxing , if anything the Eubank did was the best you have ever seen!
Eubank wouldnt even come close to winning a round, he wasnt even close to being as good as Roy.
Dan Schommer schooled Eubank , so what chance has he got against Roy.
Anyway to sum up go and do your homework before school tommorow, leave the forum for the adults.
Re: Prime Eubanks vs jones jr??
Eubanks had beautiful straight technical punches, he almost sat back and admired them too much they were that perfect. He lacked stamina but iron chin and a heart of a lion would have given Roy issues. Not enough to win the fight.
