Really pleased with my new local - The Ings - pic below. Proper traditional pub that is for drinkers only. Doesn't do food (peanuts at best) and doesn't let kids in - not many places like that left these days thats for sure. Sort of place you can go in on your own no problem and just have a beer.
Only thing missing is a pool table mind :-\
The other pub nearby is geared towards eaters only and doesn't seem keen on having people who just drink in - how shite is that.

Good thread, Mark. I'll post a picture of my local watering hole sometime soon.
I read an article in the paper over here in the states that the traditional English pub is a dieing breed. That's a shame. When I spent a summer studying in Stratford Upon Avon, the pubs were the best part.

That is the "Dixie Chicken" located in College Station, Texas. Bilbo, you won't see cards played there but we do have a game called "42" that is played with dominoes and while there is no piano player there is an aquarium with rattlesnakes in it. No liquor is served there but you can bring in your own bottle. All in all it is a great place to drink a cold beer and relax.

Just beer and sangria, but like I said you can bring in a bottle of bourbon, rum etc.
If you decide you want a shot this place is next door

I find that really interesting. As far as I know, there isn't a public place in the entire country of Canada that will allow you to bring in your own bottle of booze and drink it there. Definitely a cultural difference there...
Re: Post a pic of your local
Ultimately it is up to the owner but it is not uncommon for places that only have a beer license to allow patrons to bring in liquor, but you gotta buy the mixers from them. Pretty common for new restaurants to open before they have a beer or liquor license and will allow you to bring your own booze.
Re: Post a pic of your local
ah right I get it now. Didn't realise beer and liquour were two different things covered under two licences.
In England its all same thing

I was thinking the same. A pub that doesn't serve acohol, isn't that just a town hall or social club?
Re: Post a pic of your local
over here a pub that doesn't serve alcohol is.....uhhhhhh.....a room ??
Re: Post a pic of your local
Laws regulating alcohol are pretty local in the U.S. There are still counties in Texas that are dry. Oklahoma regulates the alcohol content in its beer. Some cities in Texas bars serve till 2AM others it varies by the day. So on and so forth.
