Re: What a sad time it is in the heavyweights when wlad v haye is such a big fight!
Haye is hype, Wlad has earned his right as a true champion and been more active that Vitali so is better champ.
Wlad could not beat the Bowe that fought Holyfield the first time but the other versions after he could have. The rest of the other competition in the 90's he beats bar Lewis and certain versions of Holyfield.

Anyone who says Wlad couldn't hang with the ATGs in history is either A) ignorant, B)biased against the Klitschkos, or C) all of the above. Look at the guys who put Wlad on his ass. Samuel Peter, 240-250lbs with HUGE knockout power. Lamon Brewster, Corey Saunders... not the greatest fighters, but HUGE KO punchers. And like mentioned before, more often than not he gets up (and has come back to win)

A tall, handsome, WHITE, American HW Champion? Can you imagine the revenue that would generate?

Ain't just me, a lot of forum members believe that Wlad can't hang with Holyfield, Ali, Lewis, Holmes, Tyson, etc.;)

Well clearly he didn't against those guys

Lennox also had a stellar resume, Wlad doesn't. Lennox also was a part of the great 90s HW scene, the 2nd greatest HW era, Wlad wasn't. And yes Lennox got ktfo but only relied on himself to avenge his losses not a big brother. Hence, why Lennox is regarded much more in heavyweight history than Wlad.
And here's the ultimate kicker. A fat, semi-shot, 38 year old, inactive Lennox Lewis still beat a prime Vitali. Wlad does not have anyone on his resume that is good as a prime Vitali.

Wlad has been on his backside sooo many times it untrue & lets be honest not fought any really good heavyweights (not his fault just no one abt)
Haye is soooo inexperienced in heavys he hasnt fought anyone who aint old & crap!
yet this is gonna be the biggest fight for i dont know how long
it shows what a state the heavyweight scene is in when we are going crazy for them 2 get the fight on!
opinions?
I agree neither are amongst the true ATG's of the sport. BUT they are both very good by todays standards and as a boxing fan I cannot complain about it. Boxing NEEDS the hype that surrounds this fight and I am hoping that this could be the beginning of the end of the worst era in the history of the glamour division of the greatest sport on earth.

Re: What a sad time it is in the heavyweights when wlad v haye is such a big fight!
Gotta disagree with the title here. First off bravo to Haye for selling himself when other heavies just sit around and do nothing David Rodriguez, David Tua I'm talking to you. And the brothers are doing a helluva job doing their job and thats destroying any and all contenders in their path and shame on HBO and Showtime for letting these 2 pass by when in the past we sat through Lewis vs Botha or Bowe vs Dokes etc etc. I think its a good time and I will miss both of these Hall of fame heavies when their gone.
Re: What a sad time it is in the heavyweights when wlad v haye is such a big fight!
Comparing Lewis with Wlad is absolutely pathetic. Where on Wlad's record are the exciting swift slaughterings of -
Ruddock
Golota
Grant
Briggs
Botha
Rahman
Morrison
Tyson
That's ignoring the dozen or more fighters Lewis annihilated.
Name one fight Wlad has shocked us all with a breathtaking performance? It Doesn't exist. Fact.

True. I can't wait for it, a heavyweight unification fight between a dominant long running champ and a loud, cocky Brit who also holds a belt. What's not to like? The buildup should be fun, get some interest in the division again and as long as the fight itself isn't farcical it should be a good thing for boxing. Surely.
