But to be quite honest, Diaz over rates his own boxing ability. Hes also talking about fighting Vargas. I havent seen anything from Diaz that tells me he would hang with a decent pro. Just coz you can outbox a bunch of guys who cant throw punches for shit (and I watch UFC all the time, even saw it live) doesnt mean you can beat someone who can do it against the best.Quote:

Yeah and thats the other thing, now that strikeforce is owned by Zuffa he will have more competition. I think GSP beats him any day of the week. I just dont get the idea of going to another sport when your not even the best in your current sport.Quote:

Yea the fight with GSP is the only one out there for him really. Once GSP takes care of Shields then hopefully that match will be made. I honestly think Diaz has the bit better stand-up striking, just GSP's wrestling is off the map. Diaz has solid BJJ, just dont think GSP will give him a chance to utalise it once he has him down. guys seriously, lacy will destroy this guy, ok, lacy lost to guys pretty bad, calzaghe, roy jones, taylor, all guys that are extremely accomplished boxers, look at the way diaz stands, lacy will eat his ass alive, anderson silva was one who tried boxing, anyone see his fight? he looks like shit in the ring, imagine diazo

He was relatively small for super middle relying on muscle to bulk up his frame. Diaz weighs the same with his natural frame even though he looks skinny. Put muscles on Diaz and he'd probably be around 190 lbs.
Not saying he wins the fight because of this but the way Jeff has looked lately an tall, rangy fighter with long arms might be a problem.
I really don't know how good Diaz would be as a boxer. Certainly stand up is the main part of his skillset so he transfers to boxing far better than James Toney did to MMA. Of course he won't be as technically able as a top level boxer, but he may have enough to beat Jeff at this stage.
Either way it's a fight I hope neither takes. Beating Jeff Lacy doesn't prove a victory for MMA over boxing as Lacy is no longer relevant to the sport (sadly) and Jeff was too good a fighter before his injury and the Calzaghe beating to be reduced to fighting circus sideshows against a Strikeforce MMA bad boy.
Nick is an awesome MMA fighter, great to watch and I want to see him where he performs best. Jeff, I wish him well but I hope he's able to find a decent paying career outside of boxing.
For those too lazy to look up Diaz's boxing record, he has ONE boxing match in 2005. It was a 4 rounder, and he won a decision against a nobody.
Granted, in the last 6 years, Diaz has improved his boxing skills, sparring at Kings Boxing Gym in Oakland, CA, with Andre Ward and other boxers.
My former trainer, is assistant trainer to Virgil Hunter, Ward's trainer, and he has watched Diaz spar Ward many times. He says Ward could "KO Diaz with his eyes closed", and he absolutely toys with Diaz.
Now more importantly, a tough, club fighter named Fernando Barajas, a super middle boxer, also goes to Kings, has sparred both Nick and Nate Diaz and tore them up as well from what I understand.
So I really just do not see Diaz beating Lacy or Fernando Vargas or any decent pro boxer.
And Bilbo, Diaz is taller than Lacy, but he doesn't walk around at 190 of muscle, Lacy does.
You guys are drinking the kool aid, Lacy is so far beyond shot and still a one-trick pony he's going to get clobbered. Diaz's boxing skills maybe overrated, but they're good enough to outpoint Lacy.
It is curious to me that Diaz is considered to have good boxing/striking skills. I'm not somebody that has followed his career, but in the video I've seen, his skills are embarassing. He pokes, he slaps, he flails. He is, at best, a novice amateur, when it come to punching.
Now, Lacy is shot and has been for a long time. Before he was shot, when he was at his peak, he was at best, a mediocre fighter. Not much at all.
If there is even a hint that Diaz might be a money-maker in boxing, Lacy will lose, and he'll make good money too. He will certainly not be trying to win, and he'll take the payday, as he has to realize that his days of being in the hunt ended long ago. In a legitimate fight, he would probably have to KO Diaz in spite of himself.
Neither can fight-box- a lick and it is a shame that boxing has come to this.
I would never choose to hang out with Diaz, but I do enjoy watching the guy fight. That being said I have little to no interest in these circus type fights. If Diaz wins then Lacy is just a washed up can and if he loses then Diaz is just an MMA fighter that had no business in a boxing ring to start out. The guy needs to get out of Strike Force and return to the UFC. There is a long list of top WWs there for him to fight and earn the paychecks he wants.
I can easily picture Diaz getting a DQ, he may stay on the ground attempting up kicks when he's knocked down. :p

To the guy who said Diaz stance was awful, you do realise he's fighting MMA right? You can't have the same stance as in boxing as you'd be wide open to take downs, kicks and everything else.

Unless Lacy throws the fight, he will beat Diaz in a 10 round affair, likely by KO.
IF somehow Diaz won, I would shutter to think what the MMA community would say about it...
I like mma, and watch a ton of it, have watched it since the very first UFC, before it was super popular, but I'm a boxing fan first and foremost.
