I don't think we are at all ruled by base instinct- only when it is convenient and may lead to something good. Example...at a fast food place, somebody cuts in line, between you and food. Do you fight 'em? My dog does. That's base instinct.

I don't think men particularly like the idea of any woman they are interested getting cock from another guy any more than women like the idea of a man they are interested in putting it in any holes apart from theirs.

If you consider that to be the basis for monogamy, then yes.
