Re: Looks like Mayorga could be getting one last World Title...
Mayorga basically laid down and took it up the ass in the Cotto fight. He put up half a fight and seemed to have lost his balls. I can't back up that kind of Mayorga. He just wants to cash his checks andc trash talk to sell fights. Lmets be real, the guy has made a career from beating Vernon Forrest and talking shit.

Oh fuck off.
Mayorga really acted a bitch in the Oscar fight. Didn't come in shape, tried to beg Oscar for more money, then got KO'd in 6, lasted as long as fucking little Gatti did against a younger Oscar. It was pathetic.
Mayorga put up more than half a fight against Cotto, he put up one hell of a fight then was exhausted and hurt in the 12th and quit.
If your a Mayorga fan then your a Mayorga fan til the end.
The same way if you were a Vargas fan then you didn't abandon him when he talked his way into two Mosley fights just for the money.
Re: Looks like Mayorga could be getting one last World Title...
I do loveMayorga, he is still a hard bastard that youd want by your side in any arguments;D
I will say though that what made him good was that wreckless abandon and wild style but he doesnt or cant fight like that any more. He did it in spurts against Mosley and while he was doing it Mosley could do nothing but baxk up or hold. I believe had Mosley fought Mayorga instead of Forrest in the rematch he would have beaten Mosley too and that would have given him a far better and frustrating resume.
When you watch what he was physically capable of he was a force of nature, able to throw massive punches for the whole 3 minutes of every round and for the whole 12 and eat up the biggest punchers cleanest shots!
King should get Ariza on board for any title chance and make Mayorga in to that non stop machine again!
Re: Looks like Mayorga could be getting one last World Title...
I just think Mayorga let Cotto dictate the pace for most of the fight. He didn't put half as much pressure as Margarito did.

Mayorga has never been a pressure fighter like Margarito.
Mayorga is a power puncher who fights in spurts, Margarito is much more consistent and has a very high work rate, although he starts slow.

If the bundrage fight does happen and Mayorga wins and Margarito beats Cotto again I think youll see a unification between Mayorga and Margarito.
Re: Looks like Mayorga could be getting one last World Title...
I'm not a Mayorga fan but I like him anyway. He should try to straighten his punches and get a tuneup fight. His problem is lack of activity. He doesn't fight too often. Last but not least he should quit smoking or someone should attach a patch to help him cut down on the nicotine. Things would be interesting and the cravings would make him vicious on fight night if someone hid his smokes.

Mayorga: I Expect To Fight Bundrage in Early 2012 - Boxing News
Mayorga says the fight will be IN NICARAGUA.
I think Don King might be blowing smoke up Mayorga's ass. But, we'll see. Keep my fingers crossed.
Re: Looks like Mayorga could be getting one last World Title...
Mayorga didn't let Cotto dictate the pace, Cotto MADE Mayorga fight at his pace with his movement and his constant solid jabs, he was in there with a superior boxer and a guy who knows how to finish off his opponent, all of which Bundrage isn't so I'd say Mayorga has a decent shot at pulling off the win against K-9
Re: Looks like Mayorga could be getting one last World Title...
That's what he gets for being an exciting fighter with an awkward style and a load of personality.

Dicked around by Don King? Mayorga has always been a worthy contender and exciting guy to watch, he should have gotten a lot more matchups like this imo. Instead he is nearly always on the shelf until King throws him in against an elite guy once every 18 months. I'd have loved to see him fight Margarito a few years back, think it could still be a good sell if they both win, much as I don't want Margarito to.

Yes Don King has fucked Mayorga over a lot, but every now and then he gets him a good fight against a lesser titlist like when Mayorga fought Michelle Piccarillo for a title.
King is good at bribing his fighters up the rankings and has done it with Mayorga before.
Mayorga has been WAY too inactive though since "losing" to Spinks.
He could have fought so much more, and as a result would have been sharper.

Its all ifs and buts. Surely if Mayorga wanted more out of his career he would have tried a bit harder either in training, taking on warm up opponents and actually working his way up the rankings.
I think King really has a soft spot for Mayorga. He has a man who can sell a fight better than anyone and who will also give a performance whether its winning or losing.
As for Cotto beating Mayorga because hes the better boxer! Mayorga waited for Cotto to make the fight, he wasnt and hasnt for a long time been the fighter who attacked some of the biggest punchers welter weight has ever had as if his head was built like a nazi bunker! Remember the De La Hoya fight, taking that wicked left hook and being dropped hard on his ass! He fought on like nothing had happened! Again he wasnt there for his legacy but to pay the bills. Taking 3 or 4 clean left hooks from the devastating Trinidad in the first, actually encouaging him to throw them and then bulling him back! Taking dozens of clean head shots.
Even though Mayorga is well recorded as not really training for those fights, he still had fight in him. Thats not the same fighter that fought Cotto.
I still think Mayorga s physically capable of giving anyone a hard nights work but id like to see some proof he actually wats to achieve a better all time ranking a th the end of his career. A win against Bundrage and maybe even a losing but honest effort against Mayweather or Pacquiao looking for a stay busy fight would be enough. He might even beat Bundrage, then Margarito, unifying the titles and then Mayweather and Pacquiao will be falling over themselves to take him on with the chance of being a unified champ at another weight!

Mayorga could have pushed for more fights if he wanted them, but would it have done any good ? Don King keeps him on the shelf a lot.
And I can see Mayorga beating Bundrage but thats it. The last hurrah.
I can't see Mayorga beating Margarito especially if Margarito beats Cotto.
Only other big win that Mayorga could get would be if he beats Bundrage THEN gets a shot at Chavez Jr.
