Re: Is Yori Boy Campas a hall of famer ?
Had to go back and look. I thought Ray collins boxed his ears a bit and had Campas losing 114-115 with 6th even.

Sure, the man quit in most of his losses, but he was one hell of a puncher, and has an eye popping record.
Also, he's still fighting, and believe it or not is on a 7 fight win streak at 40 years old !
Luis Ramon Campas - Boxer
There are much better fighters that didn't get into there , such as Donald Curry , Sim Thompkins ("Young Peter Jackson") , Julian Jackson , George Chuvalo (only got into the WBHOF , but not into the more lucrative IBHOF) .
Surprisingly (or not , since the IBHOF is a populistic organization) Ken Norton was introduced , however even Ken Norton was a better fighter than Campas .. and I am far from being a fan of his or considering him even as a top 30 HW of all time .

Campas was old then too. With A LOT more fights.
And I'd say a PRIME Raul Marquez was a better victory for Campas.
Yes, there are far more deserving fighters in the HOF, but Campas was a good fighter.
Just not a hall of famer.
Course then we have Barry McGuigan lol

I thought that prime Marquez was a bit fortunate to get the nod vs late replacement Keith Mullings when Campas dropped out of original fight. I do think its was Campas best win though, Jones ko was brutal too.
The Ayala fight was a face first war but Tony was old as in he just had a 15 yr layoff old and maybe juuuust a lil over rated in the first place.

True true.
That prison sentence did NOT do him any favors.
Of course he is a no good serial rapist scum of the earth fucker.
I think pre-prison Ayala has become something of a myth. Some people think he could have hung with Duran, Leonard, Hagler and Hearns.
Re: Is Yori Boy Campas a hall of famer ?
Not even close...
Campas dropped Tito with argueably one of the shortest hooks I've ever seen.
Credit to Tito though for getting back and going to work.
They fought on the inside the whole way through. In the 1st 2 rounds I had Campas wining. What I think turned the fight around for Tito was that he started to change it up and started throwing the straight right in the 3rd round.
I had Campas beating Duddy, can't remember my exact score but it was by 2 or 3 points.
Now that was a fucken bad ass fight. Saw that shit live by stream. I think it was POB who came on here and posted a link to the fight right before it started.
Re: Is Yori Boy Campas a hall of famer ?
No HoF for Yori Boy. I saw Trinidad and him at a public work out before the first boxing card at the Pond in Anaheim; you'd never think Trinidad could have beaten Campos by looking at them. I also saw him demanding $5 for autographs at the Forum one night, while, 10 feet away, Azumah Nelson was getting writer's cramp from signing so many. The guy the managed him in 2003, 2004- I can't think of his name but he had a gym on, I believe, 10th Ave in Phoenix, near the capitol building- was a very unique individual.

Ruined him so much that Campas won his only title after facing Trinidad
I'd say that Trinidad did ruin him a bit, seeing how he quit every time he saw his own blood afterwards
that's like saying Trinidad didn't ruin Vargas cause Fernando went on to win another world title after the beating Tito gave him, which anyone who knows boxing knows that that's not the case (and no VD I'm not saying you don't know your boxing haha)
I don't think you know what a fighter ruining another fighter means. Trinidad beat Vargas. But to say he ruined him is just dumb. Seriously where do people come up with shit like this? Vargas back problems is what ruined him. Not Trinidad

name another fight that Vargas fought like the Vargas of old after the loss to Trinidad, and don't say against Oscar cause we know that Fernando was juiced up against DLH and still was stopped, in pretty much every fight afterwards he was gunshy, hell he was almost stopped by Rivera who only didn't get the win because he stood like a deer stuck in the headlights when he realized how bad he hurt Fernando

The way he fought Trinidad was not the way he normally fought. Vargas let all the pre-fight trash talk get to him. Which is why he came out as reckless as he did. See his fights against Quartey and Marquez and you'll see he was an attacking, pressure fighter. Not a reckless fighter like in the Trinidad fight.
Rivera was a good fighter. Vargas did get dropped against him. But that was pretty much the only part of the fight Rivera won. Vargas dominated the rest.

Rivera was a good technician, but he had pillows for fists
my main thing with Campas is that the only fight that he was really KO'd in was pretty much against Trinidad (and slightly against Vargas), against everyone else IMO he saw flashes of the same thing when he was pressured, hit, cut, etc. and flat out quit, the perfect example is his loss to Santos, I thought he was doing very well in this fight, then as soon as he got cut he quit
