Valero was alot better than most people are making him out to be in this thread.

he was also a lot less proven at a world stage than some are making him out to be, his two biggest wins are against DeMarco and Pitelua, neither guy really on the level of Marquez or Pacquiao

yea so anyone who disagree's with you doesn't know boxing?!?!
first off given how unstable Valero was (hello look how the guys life ended), i doubt he would have had the mental build up to deal with the pressure of fighting guys like Marquez or Pacquiao, his hands weren't all that fast, he had better skill than most give him credit for but wasn't a technical fighter and was hit cleanly and often against weaker opposition, so to say that a guy who hadn't ever fought the best at any weight class he fought in would have just steamrolled against JMM and Pacquiao is a bit ridiculous

Valero was a waste.
Boxing writers that saw him in the gym years ago (dougie fisher of ring and previously maxboxing comes to mind) said he had unbelievable potential.
But he had the motorcycle accident (brain bleed to some degree) and couldn't get licensed in US. He went overseas and by all accounts was training himself. The footwork and technique he had prior to going overseas degraded.
He came back, had a few fights and looked like a beast. Yet, he dumped Adams (reportedly because he had become accustomed to doing things his own way). He needed a good trainer that would refine his technique and footwork.
apparently he was schizophrenic and we all know how it ended.
Adams can have his opinion but he would have been better served to say something like, " I wish Valero could have conquered his demons. If he had been able to do so and had worked on his technique and underrated boxing skills he could have competed at the highest levels of the sport. I could even have seen him beating a fighter as great as Manny Pacquiao. "
But like normal a trainer, manager, promoter, or fighter speaks in complete over the top hyperbole.
