Shaw has already said even if the WBC mandates a rematch they won't obey it and will give up the belt.
So either way Dawson is losing that belt he "won".
Dawson is doing that because he's scared and knows if Hopkins ever gets into the ring with him again he's gonna make him pay for all the post fight antics. Dawson has always been a sucker for a right hand and Hopkins caught him with one that put his glove on the canvas.
So he is taking any chance he can to get away from Hopkins after talking all that trash after the fight never wants to get in the ring with him again.
Dawson is going to duck Hopkins now and try to parade himself around as the 'peoples' champ, the writing's on the wall. Dawson doesn't want anymore of Hopkins and if he was so heated after the fight he would want to avenge it and give Hopkins the beating he claims he can... but he doesn't, he talked a lot of trash and is trying to stand behind it to avoid a rematch. That's a punk move. Sad thing is people are gonna buy it.
Are you kidding? Dawson was winning that fight. Bernard had no answers for his speed and reach. This was the first time Hopkins simply couldn't sucker a guy. Dawson has no reason to duck Hopkins, he wins an easy, boring fight if they fight again. Hopkins had no hope in that fight. He simply couldn't get off with hardly anything effective.

I hope Hopkins hangs them up. I saw the fight differently to be honest. Going into the fight, I thought Hopkins would eek out a decision although I admit going back and forth, but after seeing the body language of the two, I believe Hopkins fought the first person since Calzaghe that he couldn't manipulate mentally. I like Dawson in a rematch. I believe Hopkins was trying to pull one of those moves that he uses to take off 5 minutes. In his last few fights, it seems that he finds a way to take 5 minutes off every fight. Hopkins got what was coming to him.
Hopkins was controlling Dawson and making him fight at his tempo, and apparently he did affect Dawson mentally hence the throwdown, the fake tantrum afterwards, and the weak refusal to give a "rematch", simply put Dawson became a bitch overnight and just managed to put a nice shit streak on his camera friendly "good guy" image, so much for backing him up against Pascal in a rematch
Hopkins was controlling Dawson? Really? He had the outside angle, but besides that Dawson was in complete control. Hopkins landed maybe once solidly with his right hand, and Dawson landed much better punches. He was putting pressure on Hopkins without abandoning his defense. The throw down was Dawson being rough against a rough fighter. I think he honestly believed Hopkins was faking, and he was frustrated because he was having an easy time with Hopkins and he knew Hopkins didn't want to be in there with him and wouldn't do it again.
Re: When Bernard gets his belt back should he give Dawson a rematch ?
I think Bernard was having a little trouble but he wasnt losing. The last punch landed was a right hand thrown by Hopkins while Dawson tried to duck out the way.
They must know that a Hopkins tactic is to come in after the right but Dawson was still there as he threw it.
Hopkins landed more punches than Dawson for the near 2 rounds that were completed.

You're trying to put a mentality on Hopkins that isn't there by trying to insinuate that after one round Hopkins was ready to mentally throw in the towel, if that's the case why did he keep fighting when Pascal decked him? And the multiple times Hopkins stunned him in their rematch? You give Dawson too much credit and take too much credit away from Hopkins. If ever there was a fighter that would never "pack it in" after one and a half rounds which are mostly even right at the point he starts finding a right hand on Dawson...it isn't Hopkins. This is getting ridiculous.
Re: When Bernard gets his belt back should he give Dawson a rematch ?
Well.. shouldn't it be "IF he gets his title back"?? Personally, I don't believe Hopkins will regain "his" title because he'll lose the rematch IF there is one. Besides, it won't sell, not PPV worthy. Maybe regular HBO will pick it due to the controversy. We can/should expect Suliaman/WBC to get into the act and ORDER an immediate MANDATORY rematch. I foresee Suliaman once again "selling his soul to the devil" and stripping Dawson and fabricate a way to hand it back to Bhops/GBP, that's his style. He didn't hesitate to strip Sergio Martinez to serve it on a silver platter to Chavez Jr and won't think twice about screwing Dawson.
Re: When Bernard gets his belt back should he give Dawson a rematch ?
I wouldn't accuse Bhops of 'quitting' and only he knows how severe his injury was. Yes, he's done worse but that's another story altogether. I surely don't blame Dawson for his reaction or OVER-reaction. He really wanted to win without any controversy. He DIDN'T want to win that way. He really believed in himself. True COMPETITIVE emotion. If we put ourselves in his shoes we might've reacted similarly. right?? think about it. The same way many accuse Dawson of OVER-recating are in fact OVER-reacting THEMSELVES!! Their LACK of in depth ring/competitive IN-experience is clearly showing, IMHO. By the way, I'm not a Dawson fan, never have been. Just keeping it real.

I agree with you that no way Hopkins was packing it in. He's a proven warrior. On the other hand, Hopkins often fakes injuries in order to get a breather to pace himself. To me, this looked exactly like one of those situations, but this time his bluff was called.
Re: When Bernard gets his belt back should he give Dawson a rematch ?
If B Hop got the title back then Dawson would be in an awkward position, unless they mandate Hopkins has to fight Dawson, I could see Hopkins ignoring Dawson and never fighting him again. B Hop should have one last fight and call it a day, there is nothing out there for him. Bute will not fight him at light heavy and he has beaten Tarver already. I would not mind seeing Hopkins fighting Toney at cruiserweight.

I would love to see Hopkins fight Toney IF Toney wins his bout at cruiser against that Russian who KO'd Jones.

I'm not saying Hopkins isn't a warrior, but he had no answers for Chad, he wasn't landing like he does against everyone else, he was clearly a step to slow to land solidly on Dawson, and Dawson was getting more and more comfortable in there. I was behind Hopkins 100% against Calzaghe and Pavlik and I thought he beat both of them, and that he is one of the greatest ever, but at his age against a guy with Chad Dawson's skill and technique there is no way he would win. Dawson was the first guy I saw that could escape that sneaky right hand quite easily, and he was measuring Hopkins more and more.
As for people saying how can you tell who was winning? How maybe rounds does it usually take Floyd to have a guy know that he is out of the fight. Or Manny these days? There was nothing Hopkins could have done to turn the table on Dawson. This was simply a terrible style matchup for him against a really good fighter who might eventually be considered great. I think people forget how good Dawson is because of the Pascal fight, I was surprised myself that Pascal was able to do what he did, but he is physically faster than Hopkins, and Dawson was blocking most of what he threw too, but he wasn't throwing back at all. THis fight Hopkins was barely throwing and Dawson was starting to get his range and he wasn't getting out of balane to land shots.
Re: When Bernard gets his belt back should he give Dawson a rematch ?
No, he should just ignore him completely until he either beats Pascal or a rematch is wanted by fans
