Re: Pacquiao Vs Marquez 4 to take place in May 2012 says Arum
I don't think there is any unfinished business with Manny. Marquez won again and did it more convincingly than ever. What's the point in doing it yet again.
Marquez doesn't need Manny anymore. We all saw what happened, Manny lost the fight.
That's 3 and 0 to Marquez. 4 is just taking the piss out of Pacquiao.
I would prefer Marquez to walk away and maybe go for a belt at 140 before calling it a day.

Agreed. They could fight until Marquez turns 55. He has nothing left to prove. Pac, drug allegations aside, has just tarnished the remainder of his legacy by stating he "won" the fight. If he'd stepped aside and taken a legitimate loss like a man while congratulating Marquez on a good fight, he would've risen in my books. I don't want to see a Pac/Marquez 4. I don't even know that I want to see a Pac/Mayweather anymore. It was really a dark weekend for boxing.

I would MUCH rather see Mayweather-Pacquiao than a fourth fight with Marquez. We know all there is to know -- Pac and JMM are evenly matched, period. The fourth fight will be the same: close and probably controversial. Moreover, this last one wasn't even that great of a fight -- nice because it was close, but very little action.
I agree that Mayweather over Pac is pretty much a foregone conclusion -- I've said and thought so for years. But that fight still ought to happen and with Pac looking not-so-hot in this fight over a guy Mayweather completely outclassed (notwithstanding the general A-over-B and B-over-C =/= A-over-C), Mayweather will jump to make the fight now. Enough risk off the table for the most risk-averse boxer out there.
Curious to see if The Ring goes ahead and swaps PBF into the #1 PFP spot tomorrow already. They clearly should.

I believe the Mayweather v. Pacquiao fight lost its intrigue. Does anyone who is honest with themselves really believe Pacquiao has a chance? I always thought Mayweather had the edge, but now I don't think Manny has a chance at all.
The biggest loser after last night has to be Mayweather because the intrigue for a fight between Manny and Mayweather took a huge hit. What else is out there for Mayweather now? Maybe Khan in a year after he grows into welterweight? Martinez at junior middleweight? No one wants to see Ortiz again. Maybe if Berto wins that's a fight that could happen.
A fourth fight with JMM makes more sense. Two future hof's who are evenly matched. What's not to like? I'm just not sure the public wants to see it again because it's clear the outcome will be the same as it was the last three fights.
Pacquiao versus Bradley would also be a fun fight as would Pacquiao versus the Berto/Ortiz winner.

JMM should just move on now. He and the fans all know he won he has nothing left to prove to anyone. Put Pac in the ring with Floyd already, it's seems to me Bob is really trying to avoid going into negotiations with Floyd by trying to hurry up and sign another fight for Manny.

I'm sure that from Floyd's perspective, the apparent removal of risk of loss more than makes up for any loss of "intrigue." It's not like "non-intriguing" has ever dissuaded Floyd from making a fight he's sure he'll win -- look at every single fight he's had in the last 10 years. And it's not like the fight was getting made with Pacquiao when it was more "intriguing."
It's still #1 vs. #2 PFP -- it's so rare that the guys in those positions are even close in weight class. And it is still a huge fight -- still by far the biggest and most lucrative fight that can be made. It would gross at least 4x what Pac-Marquez 4 would. Not that that's the only consideration, but the reason it would make the most $$ is because it's still the fight most people want most.
(Doug Fischer at Ring still thinks Pac has a serious shot at beating PBF, fwiw. I don't agree, but his argument for that position isn't totally unreasonable.)
