Re: Amir Khan vs. Lamont Peterson saturday on HBO
How could Peterson be an easy win. A guy who fought and drew with Victor Ortiz the man who has just taken on the best fighter in the world Mayweather.
Peterson is very fast and any punch can trouble Khan.
I AM A KHAN FAN. He may be a bit of a big head but which boxer isnt.
He cant take a punch which is no fault of his own and you cannot train punch resistance. So he makes up for his downfalls with speed and endurance.
He has fought Maidana, Jab Judah, Malignaggi and lets not forget Kotelnic. Everone thought him to be sh*t but he beat Maidana and got a dodgy decision loss against Alexander.
He is calling everone out even though some such as Mayweather would beat him. I dont see that Mayweather, Pacman or Bradley have half the guts he has.
The only other people in that devision who would be worth fighting are either Soto, Alexander or Maidana again. I didnt even mention Bradley as he will not fight khan even though Khan is pushing his buttons calling him a coward every chance he gets.

Should be a competitive fight, Khan figures to win since Peterson hasn't been able to sucessfully move up to the next level. But I doubt that Khan will stop him, if he does get a KO, i'd be impressed, especially since it would be on Lamont's home turf. If Khan and Roach are underestimating Peterson, they could be in for a big surprise, Peterson ain't no pushover, the dude can fight, and this is a golden opportunity for him. Keep in mind too, that Lamont does have some power and Amir's chin is still questionable.
Plus, I want another look at Cotto vs Margo II in HD on my big screen, that comes on before the main event.

I wish we were getting the Cotto - Margarito replay over here. Anything that saves me from having to watch Ibragimov on the undercard.
Khan should win, but i think as always, he'll have some scary moments. He still does a lot of things wrong technically and his defence isn't great. Peterson is a better fighter than he showed against Bradley so he should make it interesting for the first 4 or 5 rounds. He might even be land a few clean shots which could buzz Khan. Khan should take over and win on points. A stoppage would be impressive but unlikely. Khan UD for me, but it should be competitive.

That's what I figure, Khan by UD, or possibly a close, even controversial SD, but I'd love to see Peterson score an upset. :-X

It's Timur Ibragimov, not Sultan Ibragimov. He's the lesser talanted of the Ibragimov's. Sultan retired after the defeat against Wlad. Still this is a good step up for Seth Mitchell. Timur has lost almost every time he's stepped up in competition. He lost to Calvin Brock, Tony Thompson, and last time out suffered a debatable split decision loss to Jean Mormeck. He also has drawn with Kevin Johnson. This will be a good gauge of where Seth Mitchell is in his development.

Wouldn't surprise me if he had to get off the floor to win this one tbh. Got a weird feeling about it. I'd like to see him win because i've more interest in watching him fight guys like Bradley and the like. I've not seen enough of Peterson to care either way really. I'd like to see Khan - Ortiz down the line. That would be a good grudge match after the Jr Olympics.

Like I said earlier in the thread, Peterson is a guy with some skills and decent power, but hasn't shown he can win at the next level. This fight is a golden opportunity for Lamont, if he wins Khan's titles, it would propel him into the big time, so i'm expecting him to bring it.
Re: Amir Khan vs. Lamont Peterson saturday on HBO
I like Peterson, certainly think he is better than he showed against Bradley. Bradley's style of rushing in and being careless with his head makes a lot of fighters uncomfortable and look worse than they are. Alexander may have been a bit overrated at one time but I think he looked especially poor to people after the Bradley fight by how uncomfortable he looked in there. He didn't like/handle the pressure in the Kotelnik fight but didn't look nearly as frustrated to me as he did in the bout with Bradley. Without saying who he would win/lose to against in fights with people like Mallinaggi or Judah, I think he would look much better against them. I think Peterson is the same way, when he was put under real pressure by Ortiz he didn't handle it extraordinarily well but didn't look nearly as troubled by it as he did against Bradley. Khan lunges in awkwardly sometimes but I don't think it will take Peterson out of his element nearly as much, Khan being relatively responsible with distance and spacing helps Khan but I think also helps Lamont in this fight. I figure it to be a relatively competitive fight with Khan winning on points.

Good post, I like the way Bradley looked against Alexander, pretty much dominating him, and I realize Casamayor was old & shot, but Tim did what he was suppose to do in there. In a lot of ways, Khan is being overrated and Bradley is being underrated.
Khan figures to win a close, even controversial fight against Peterson Saturday night, but I wouldn't be shocked to see Lamont pull off the upset in front of his homies.. This should be a good fight.
P.S. I hope if Khan does win, Khan vs. Bradley gets done next..
Re: Amir Khan vs. Lamont Peterson - Saturday - fight/chat thread
Khans gonna stop him ;)
Some of you lot need to appreciate he is the real deal and has proved it ...The Maidana fight sealed it for me..yeah he hung on for his life but he took some heavy blows and come through!!
Prescott done him a HUGE favour..!
I think Amir will shine in this one:cool:

Let's see how Khan does tomorrow night, perhaps then, we might appreciate him more. :-X
Re: Amir Khan vs. Lamont Peterson - Saturday - fight/chat thread
Come on Peterson, knock him out!
Re: Amir Khan vs. Lamont Peterson - Saturday - fight/chat thread
Bad matchup for Peterson in the sense that he isn't a big puncher. Otherwise he's a good fighter but Khan will keep distance and can afford to be caught here and there. I think he can definitely hurt Lamont too. I would say late TKO for Khan.
I've watched a lot of Lamont's fights. I'm a big fan of both Peterson brothers. I think his power is being a bit overrated. If he was even a good puncher he would have a lot of KO's because he throws a lot of power shots (he disregards the jab at times) and he's pretty accurate. But he's still only got 15 KO's in 29 fights and outside of a couple of fights (Berto, Bradley) he hasn't fought a bunch of good fighters. He can wear you down if he just catches you time and again but I don't see that here. Not because of Khan's natural defensive skills but because of his movement. Lamont's probably a better puncher to the body than head actually. I would love for him to win but just don't see it, it's just not a great matchup for him. He's going to have to press the fight and I don't think he has hail mary power if he gets behind, and I'm pretty sure he'll get behind. Even against Khan who I still think has a below average chin.

Miles what is your problem with Khan? just curios. I think he has shown great heart against Maidiana , had the common sense to grab an opportunity and move abroad to better his game and has continued to improve, facing every challenge and ducking nobody. While I have no problem with Peterson, as an Englishman and a fan I shall be getting behind Khan. As a boxing fan I would also like to see him face Bradley before moving up to welterweight and testing himself at that level. People do perceive him as arrogant but I think he is learning how to express himself more eloquently in today's times he says
"I don't think I have reached where I want to be yet. That's why I have to try and win this fight convincingly. I am in touching distance of the super fights and these next three years are going to be a good time for me...My time will come. After this fight if things go well, maybe I will have one more fight at light-welterweight and then move up to welterweight. That's were i will prove myself against the world's best. I am already being ranked in the top ten pound for pound by some websites and i want to go on from here and win more titles at different weights"
