Re: Cotto VS JMM
On paper it's a great style and persona contrast but don't like Cotto melting down or Marquez pushing north. Size, that simple. Then again I hated him at Jr welter all along and he hung with Pac, again, just fine. Just don't like the size, and Cotto can box with power.

Re: Cotto VS JMM
I'd be rooting for Cotto, of course. But I'm also a big fan of JMM and have always respected his great boxing abilities. To me it depends on the weight. If Cotto were willing to make 147, it would be a very interesting and action-packed fight. Any lower than that, Cotto would be weight-drained and it would play right into JMM's hands. Any higher (than 147)... and JMM has not shown the ability to dominate at the higher weights. Cotto would win. At 147, it would be a toss-up. The Cotto that gave Margarito a boxing lesson would present all sorts of problems to JMM. But who knows?

Re: Cotto VS JMM
I think Marquez would beat Cotton in a very handily fashion. Either on the outside countering Cottoz head off or on the inside with a ton of short rightz and uppercutz.

Re: Cotto VS JMM
Frankly, I don't see why not. Cotto v. Margarito II allegedly sold 550k ppv's. I imagine Cotto v. JMM could do the same. They would make a lot of $ on it. It's a weight issue probably.

Re: Cotto VS JMM
i think it would depend on the weight. at a catchweight of 145lbs i think it would be even. below 145 i would have to favor jmm. can cotto even make 144lbs? 146lbs and above i would lean towards cotto.

Re: Cotto VS JMM
Suddenly JMM is a top welterweight because he caused Pac Man so much trouble, it could be just that he has his number and maybe could not live with any other top rated welterweight.

Re: Cotto VS JMM
The only two losses on Cottos resume are from fighters that pressured him and made him fight hard every minute of every round. Marquez is a patient counter puncher and I don't think he's strong enough to wear Cotto with just a counter here and there. I would pick Cotto to win

Cotto's size and strength would have more of an impact if he still based his attack around left hooks to the body.
Marquez stands a better chance against the new headhunter-crazy Cotto.

Re: Cotto VS JMM
Both men are not spring chickens anymore so this business with gaining and losing weight can cause someone to only do this type of road work, Sprints to the kitchen, to the couch and back to the kitchen because t one point all these catch weights will make the fighters sick on fight night especially in your thirties.

Re: Cotto VS JMM
Who is the last stick-and-move fighter (as Cotto has become) that JMM has beaten or even fought (besides Mayweather)? Chris John, maybe (against whom he also lost)?
He's always good against come-forward fighters but I'm not sure that translates at all. He's had very good matchmaking over the past several years.
And agreed that size is a huge issue. Cotto wins at 147 but has to starve himself weak to fight any lower.
I'd pay to watch it at 147 though.

Re: Cotto VS JMM
Cotto-JMM at 147 or 140 years ago would have been great, but right now even after the 3rd fight vs Pacquiao, JMM's style doesn't match well for Cotto's.
Cotto has lost to: pressure & wraps, and overwhelming speed....that's it
Cotto has a solid jab, is a good aggressive boxer, has tremendous power, and he's a physical fighter, that doesn't bode well for JMM
