This happens endlessly in Lebanon. There are vast numbers of third world (normally Fillipin or African) mais who go there and end up dead. Lots of them get thrown off balconies and they're definitely not all suicides. You've got an elite culture that basically thinks it can treat servants worse than animals and whether they're being raped by the husband then killed by the wives or husband when he's bored or similar basically you're looking at a minging society. Especially the police, who always write this off as suicide.
Although not all Lebanese are like this. lots of them actually campaign against this kind of sick shit like one of my favourite sources of news from the Middle east, the Angry Arab News Service :

Here's a google search of his site for the word "maid"

Thanks for the link.
Poor bastards must feel abandoned and trapped even by their own officials as they turn a blind eye to it..
Money is the key to allowing evils against humanity.
Ethiopian workers in Lebanon
"A crowd of Ethiopians gathered outside the Ethiopian Consulate in Badaro Sunday afternoon to protest its neglect of their community in Lebanon. Following a Sunday church service nearby, a few dozen women and one man walked to the consulate and demonstrated outside. The assembled expressed their frustration with consular officials' perceived callousness, saying that when Ethiopians contact their consulate in Lebanon via telephone they are often ignored or hung up on. "We are living here," said a woman named Berti, adding that "the [consulate] should help us, but they only want money.""
