I was trying to remember a fight in which Chavez "fought tall" or even won a round by "boxing beautifully"... On the other hand, you have a guy who has done a little bit of everything.
Sergio has broken guys with single punches, worn guys down with volume, and boxed beautifully to lacerate a face to a bloody mess.
All in all it's Chavez who has something to prove. I just hope people give Sergio credit for his victory, if they are going to wager on Jr.
Will Chavez be treated as the champion and enter the ring first?
Martinez has faced better competition, then Jr. who hasn't been in the ring with anyone as skilled or as powerful. Martinez, is smart and knows how to 'fight', and I doubt that Julio Jr knows how to survive a war. Sergio will break Jr. down and stop him in one of the later rounds, team Chavez believes Jr is ready for Martinez, but he isn't and never will be.
BTW, Jr looks like a fucking clown in the video, I can't see this kid beating Martinez in Vegas, even if it goes to a decision.
Jose and the Chavez family are probably neighbours. Anybody who does not think the cards are stacked against Martinez is a blithering idiot. Not really any other way to put it.
BTW, half of Mexico will show up for this fight in Vegas, but Sergio will have his share of fans there. I believe there's quite a few of us who want Martinez to kick Jr's ass, I wonder what the odds are starting to look like for this fight?
This is for Martinez's Ring magazine and Chavez's WBC middleweight title, Martinez is recognized as the middleweight champ, so Jr. will likely enter the ring first.
I truly believe Sergio will win this fight, but there's always a chance that he'll get fucked on the scorecards, if it ends up going to a decision, you know HBO will be all over Jr's nuts during the fight.
The cards may not be as stacked as they would be if this fight was happening in Texas, California, or Mexico. It really depends on who the judges are, and if they pay attention to Jr's rabid/idiotic mexican fans, who will be cheering everything Julio does..
Hopefully Sergio will take the judges out of the equation.
Brand new to the page and forum. I actually live in Vegas and was able to get tickets to this fight.
For me this is the most interesting fight of the year. Despite frustration with his past opponents and questions over his weight Chavez has developed into a very good fighter and I feel he deserves his shot.
Previously he has had difficulty with southpaws and had initially turned down the Lee fight because of his orientation. The Lee fight in the books I believe that he has been building toward this fight, developing to cope with the southpaw stance and associated difficulties.
This will be the biggest night of his life.
I hope Martinez knocks him out
Well I just watched the full episode, and it was pretty good. Chavez sucks with his comebacks though, and I was hoping Martinez would have brought up him getting caught doping, and ask him why he refused Olympic drug testing for this fight. That would have made it a lot more interesting, because I'm sure Chavez would have fumbled with any kind of an answer.
For those who haven't seen the whole episode, here it is.

Body language: Martinez
War of words: Martinez
Confidence: Martinez
It looked like man against boy in that face-off. One thing.... if Kellerman had an interpreter, which I'm assuming he did.... he did a pretty good job. The whole interview was seamless.
I like the fact that Martinez is predicting a KO. That's bold for him.
