Re: Andrew 'Freddy' Flintoff...
read a fair bit on this today. I know he was a good cricket player but the levels of fitness needed are not anything like they are for boxing.
Being a successful sportsman already he will benefit from the mentality a successful sportsman needs and can have the mindset to dedicate himself to boxing but please don't anyone say that his fitness for cricket would help him box. As soon as games/tests what ever they are called were finished it was off to the pub/holiday etc and lets not forget he was known as a bit of a party boy back when he was active. I'm sure he hasn't let his retirement and supermarket advert career interrupt his drinking.
I have heard the MEN is booked for around the same time and Hatton could be making his comeback in the show. It's starting to sound a lot like a big exhibition/charity show. Perhaps it's all to build publicity for Hattons comeback???
If Flintoff does turn pro then best of luck to him, perhaps it's a one off so he can say he did it.
Re: Andrew 'Freddy' Flintoff...
I think Flintoff fighting is good for boxing, provided nothing disastrous happens he will bring in non-boxing fans who will appreciate the sport a little bit better. He does have dodgy knees and I think this is more about doing a documentary and continuing being famous/limelight than anything else.
Re: Andrew 'Freddy' Flintoff...
Is November 30th the night Hatton is meant to be fighting at the MEN?

Andrew Flintoff's Pro Debut is Met With Mixed Emotions - Boxing News
Theres also a video from McGuigan on skysports explaining that he chose this himself and hes lost over 27lbs in weight for this. They are working on technique, but McGuigan's son is doing the strength and conditioning for him. McGuigan also said that he wants to have a number of professional fights, so it isnt just a one off.
Re: Andrew 'Freddy' Flintoff...
I don't like his chances at his age, but stranger things have happened in sport. I'm not sure what is more dangerous, avoiding a left hook flush on the jaw or ducking a cricket ball aimed at your head at close to 100mph? At least in cricket you have a helmet.
Flintoff has guts i'll give him that. Good luck to him.

I wouldn't have though he was a heavyweight but I just checked and he's 6'4 that's a decent sized heavyweight.
Re: Andrew 'Freddy' Flintoff...
does anyone know if he has any amateur experience? bloke at work was saying that he boxed as an amateur but stopped once his cricket career took off.

Cheers mate
I thought if someone wanted to turn pro in the Uk they had to have boxed amateur first even if it's 2 fights or something.

Ash I find it a bit of a joke, there are guy;s fighting that don't get any press or tv coverage, Flintoff
fights big news. Very much sad state of affairs all hype, he may win with a cricket bat in his hands.
Many pro fighters out there, who really deserve some coverage.
