Re: Are you afraid to die?
I am not really scared by the idea to die and to become nothing if particles (because I don't believe in God or in another life) but I am not at ease with the idea to potentially not see anymore those who matters to me (which also logically means) that I am sure not ok at all with the idea of losing those I love and that I am concerned by that though I know that I have absolutely no powers over it.

I don't think about myself dying very often but i find this very weird....if i have been drinking on a saturday night (for example) and i have a bad hang over on the sunday, when i finally go to bed that night i can't help thinking about dying and it terrifies me to the point i have to get up and watch tv to take my mind off it. I have no idea why but i find it strange it only happens with a hangover. :-\
this the same for anyone else?
Great cheerful thread :p
simply because alcohol is a depressant i'd say. Same for me.
Get yourself some beta blockers from the doctor (you may need to lie), take one in the morning when hungover and go on to have a good day.
dont ever take one before drinking!!!

The way I figure, when your time comes there's nothing you can do about it, so you may as well try to die like a man.
Maybe one of the reasons we fear death more when we're younger is we haven't done much with our lives, but as we age/mature and fulfill many of the things we wanted to accomplish (hopefully) it's much easier to make our peace and go gently into the night.

"When I die, I want to die like my grandfather -- who died peacefully in his sleep, not screaming like all the passengers in his car."
Re: Are you afraid to die?
What bothers me about dying is I know I'm gonna run into at least a couple of muthafukkas from here outside the gates of heaven trying to sneek in. And I know one of ya'll is gonna fuck up and get everybody caught.
Re: Are you afraid to die?
Unfortunately there are as many people afraid of just living as they are of dying. The biggest concern and pain is with the ones we leave behind. I don't fear death as there isn't a thing I can do about it. Day to day and living in the moment is what we can.

Another on the subject of old people having sex -
' I still enjoy having sex at 78.
It's not much effort as I only live at number 72'.

Re: Are you afraid to die?
Am I afraid to die? Not really, I do what I can in this life with fits and starts. Some days I really feel satisfied in what I have done. Then I get the days of despondency where my mind and hope fails me. I want to keep on living and have more of those controlled satisfied days. The cliff edge days could be fewer in number. So no I am not afraid to die at all. Most people could never consider suicide which is murder, just murder of the self. They recoil because the thought is far too hideous to face and they would rather not know or run a mile if they did see.
I'm an odd one because I always seem to be so down on life and what it hits you with, but really when life is good it is very good. Wonderful in fact. I have long spells of living like that. For me it can turn though and when it is rough I do take it the extremes and to the horrors of all around me. It takes a lot to get through on those occasions. The despair and alienation in a frame of mind like that is one where that inevitability could potentially occur. Afraid of death at a point like that? Certainly much less so.
I don't want to die and would sooner have the content me take me through to an older age, but when the time comes I am ready for it. It was always going to happen and we are rapidly getting there. There is nothingness beyond and I am cool with that. In fact that would be quite the relief.
Re: Are you afraid to die?
I just hope it is no painful scary death: burning building, drowning, a fall from a tall building, get stabbed, eaten by a shark, etc. :o

Re: Are you afraid to die?
My late Father-in-law, had his wish the way he wanted to die sudden, he got out of the chair bang
that was it, shock for all us but he had his wish quick and painless I hope.
He was a great guy, I miss him a better Father in law you could not have.
