I like MMA too, but love boxing.
Have trained boxing at an mma gym for 4 years now and many of them are talented, hard working guys.
Junior Dos Santos has always seemed a humble, nice, quiet man so this seems pretty out of character for him.
Would not surprise me a bit if Dana White is behind the scenes prodding Dos Santos to talk nonsense like this.
Junior could very well take Wlad down and KO him on the ground in an mma bout, but in a boxing match he would look like a fish out of water.
Truth be told he would find himself in the wide world of shit against top 20 heavyweights, I figure that John McDermott fat guy would knock him out in a round or two.

Dos Santos says "Guys don't finish fights anymore".....I guess he's overlooking Wlad's 50 KO's from his 58 wins. Yet Dos Santos says he's sticking with MMA because "boxing is going down". If they decided to box today, tomorrow, or 10 years from now Wlad would win and he'd win by KO....sorry Junior, you're out of your element

JDS is one of the sports nicest guy's. Came up from nothing to being the UFC heavyweight champion. For his last fight he brought a poor Brazilian kid to the US to watch his fight simply because he asked him if he would.
If we are generalizing I don't particularly like red neck, racist, hillbilly's who love shooting there gun's and drinking moonshine! ;D
And he made sure everybody knew he brought the kid with him. He just did it for the publicity. Soon as he won he called for the kid. Had to make sure everybody got a picture of him and the poor, homelss kid. I doubt he even gives a fuck about the kid

haha Pretty cynical view there VD, but you could be right. I remember the whole homeless kid thing and it did feel like he was exploiting him a bit.
Imp, you are right about everything you said except Anderson Silva being competitive with top light heavyweights in pure boxing.
Anderson Da Silva : Boxer
1-1 pro boxers typically don't fare well with top 10 contenders or world champs.
As far as mma goes though, Silva is a bit like the Roy Jones of his sport, along with Jon Jones of course.

Boxing and MMA are two different disciplines and boxing should stay like it is. I do not see boxing going away.
Boxing is pure, MMA is a mixture of everything, still developing, and I love them both.
I doubt Klitschko would ever get in the ring with dos Santos, he respects boxing too much, to be part of a sideshow.

Boxing is above all a sport. You knock the guy down, he gets an 8-count while you go stand in a neutral corner. In MMA, heaven forbid the ref trips and falls while a fighter is pounding on a prone, unconscious opponent's face. Besides... once they go to the floor and it becomes wrestling, I lose what little interest I had in the first place.

Here's the thing: the top fighters (be it in MMA or boxing) reach the top because they have a certain amount of drive and CONFIDENCE. You need to have ego to reach the top. Look at guys like James Toney, Evander Holyfield: they also think they'd whip the Klitschkos. It's ego, and it's against their nature to concede that another man would whip their ass.
JDS is as close to a "pure boxer" as MMA has right now. He doesn't box professionally, but he spars with a lot of pro and Olympic boxers. He knows boxing and he's no slouch. Would he beat either Klitschko or any other top 10 guy? Hell no. But I don't fault him for having that ego. The guy is young, he's the champ, he has people coming up to him every day telling him he'd kill anyone, so I can understand the ego thing. I don't think you should judge MMA on the opinion of one guy, because I can't remember anyone else (besides Nick Diaz) who even gave thought to fighting a world class pro boxer in a boxing match.
I'll say this to everyone who's bashing MMA here: if someone posted a clip or quote of someone saying "boxing is nothing but two brutes bashing each other's brains in", there would be a huge uproar here of people calling them ignorant, stupid, prejudice, ect. People would go into great detail about how boxing is the "sweet science" and the fighters are world class, well conditioned athletes executing a fine craft that took YEARS to perfect. People would post stories of boxers who are well educated and who give generously to charity and help their communities. They'd point out how regulated boxing is, with well trained referees and experienced fight doctors overseeing the bouts.
We'd all shit on that person because they're ignorant and we know better. So when you guys say similar things about MMA, you look equally as ignorant and idiotic.
It's cool if MMA isn't your thing. Perfectly understandable. But don't disrespect it, because those guys put the same work/hours in as boxers, and they take the same risks as boxers.
And know this: for every MMA guy who gets a big enough ego to where he thinks he can whip a boxing champ, there are about 10 boxers who have come out and said they could go out there and KTFO an MMA guy because they have better boxing.
Sorry for the rant, but as a lover of both sports someone needs to stand up for MMA every once and awhile.

The issue of a ref stopping a fight on time is a good point. Actually, MMA had a bad instance of that happen just last weekend. It was a dangerously bad stoppage and one of the worst I've seen in 15 years.
To be fair though, these days MMA refs are (for the most part) well trained and always in position to jump in. I've even seen many instances where a fighter will stop punching on his own because he recognizes that his opponent is out.
MMA's system allows, on average, for the losing fight to recieve much less damage to the brain, as if he's rocked and the opponent pounces, the ref will stop the fight. In boxing, a guy who gets dropped and concussed is given a count of 10 to try to clear the cobwebs and get up to take more punches to the head. You also have to factor in the margin of error for the ref, who may allow a guy who is out on his feet to wade out like a sitting duck for more blows. Frenkel/Macaranelli is probably the best example I can think of that.
Also, you have instances where guys are out on their feet and/or held up by the ropes and take vicious, unnecessary poundings. Morrison/Mercer, Pernell/Hurtado (I think) and Paret/Griffith where Emile killed the guy.

It has no finesse, technique, nothing. Why would you care about it unless you wear Y fronts and get a hard on over bizarre, male positioning, erotica stances?

MMA is a different sport altogether, everyone knows it, everyone understands it and hell a lot of boxing fans watch MMA. I don't particularly care for it, I watch every so often to appease my friends, but I know those guys that hold titles put the work in and they deserve respect....but that doesn't give Junior Dos Santos a free pass to take shots at a Champion like Wladimir who conducts himself with class and has nothing but respect for the MMA and those people that do it. Wlad just lost his trainer Manny Steward as well and so that also plays into my thinking JDS was in the wrong. I'd expect that kind of uncouth bullshit from Tito Ortiz, The Shamrocks, Nick & Nate Diaz, Brock Lesnar, or Jon Jones but these comments were out of left field for JDS and he should fucking know better.
Boxers that have called out MMA fighters like James Toney and Ray Mercer have usually done so because their careers are over in boxing and they need money. Floyd criticized MMA but that's his deal, he's an asshole at times and it makes it hard to cheer for him. I think boxing fans in general have given UFC and MMA all the respect in the world, it's the Tapout wearing dickheads that think MMA is the greatest of all fighting ever and feel the need to talk down about boxing & boxers.
JDS is a nobody in boxing he will ALWAYS be a nobody in boxing so he should keep the sport and it's stars names out of his mouth. Here's hoping that jackass gets KO'd by the next fighter he faces.

Hey look Lyle found some fellow MMA haters to beat off with. I must have missed the posts where you all railed against Floyd and other boxers when they said they could dismantle any MMA fighter in the Octagon. Top MMA fighters are world class athletes. Entertainment is subjective but skill and athleticism isn't. You are welcome not to like watching MMA but if you can't see that the top fighters in the UFC are great athletes and skilled then you are just ignorant and have some complex about your sport being better than another. Now regarding the classic "MMA fans are dewshs" and then spewing racial slurs about them; some of you have very selective memory about how boxing fans have acted at times. Comparing these sports is apple to oranges and stupid. I don't think JDS beats any decent HW boxer but I love watching you ignorant f*cks cry about it when he suggests he could.

VC, I never said anything racist about JDS, I just thought he could have been a bit classier. James Toney talked shit about MMA and got humbled in the octagon, but the deal is the guy was talking shit about EVERYBODY because he wanted to get a fight. Floyd Mayweather talked trash but nobody is saying that guy is a saint. I agree with you, they're two totally different sports, so why does JDS fall into this trap?
