I think he may go a bit further than those two, but not by a whole lot. Picked up the sport really late and proved to be a bit chinny against Chazz Witherspoon.
Also on that "2 days in the life of a fighter" business on HBO, Mitchell's manager admitted that Seth isn't passionate about boxing, but sees it as a means to an end for supporting his family.
Seth seems a nice guy, aggressive, athletic and getting better so best of luck to him, but I honestly do not see him ever troubling a Klitschko.
I like to watch Seth fight and root for him. But that is a damning statement, considering this is a sport that requires passion in order to be able to overcome the adversities that will always surface at one time or another.
Yes, it is an incriminating statement for sure. There are cases of guys who didn't love boxing really thriving though, like Ken Norton. It was often said that he never loved boxing, but he had a hall of fame career.
There are exceptions to the rule, but generally if you don't love boxing, then you are going to get hurt sooner or later and call it quits.
I always disliked Norton's style of fighting. He was so-o-o awkward. But he did have his day in the sun, particularly in his first fight with Ali in 1973. I like watching Seth fight, though. And I root for him to succeed. But yeah... if he's not passionate about boxing, it might catch up to him sooner or later.
I say lets put all our eggs in one basket and support Seth to be the saviour of the US heavyweight division.

Count me in. Especially since Chris "Crybaby" Arreola hasn't quite been up to the task.

I actually think Elephant Seal would smash Seth Mitchell at the moment. But, give Mitchell a few more fights and he might very well trump the elephant seal.
The seal is tough as shit though, hits hard and is very formidable.

After this fight should Seth win early then put him in with a Wlad and go for it. Why risk him against anyone else.
Re: Seth Mitchell vs. Johnathan Banks
To see if he has any kind of chance against Wlad perhaps? After last weekend I think Mariusz Wach would actually be a solid test for Mitchell, who would certainly have to think and move more than he's accustomed to. Arreola vs either of those two would be a bloodbath as well come to think of it, I'm not sure what he plans on doing though seems like he hasn't had a real opponent in ages. Banks is a decent fighter, but I'm hoping Mitchell gets through this with ease and can actually drum up some interest for himself.

Banks should make up his mind whether he wants to train or be a fighter. I dont see him doing both even though he's been sucessful with it so far theres a conflict of interest now. He said in the interview after he knows how to fight Wvladimir from working with him. The brothers are inteligent guys and wont appreciate that and will be weary in camp.
As for Mitchel he got exposed vs Witherspoon and Banks finished off the job tonight. He can comeback and be in entertaining fights but he has found his level.
Re: Seth Mitchell vs. Johnathan Banks
Go Banks! I was kind of expecting this to happen to Mitchell eventually. I think a Banks vs Wilder fight could be interesting. And Mitchell vs Hammer could be fun to watch.
Re: Seth Mitchell vs. Johnathan Banks
That was a nice little set trap by Banks, rode off the ropes with a straight right and it caved in on Mitchell.
Rewatching Mitchells last 3 and I think we have seen where he is going already. Fun style but those fifteen minutes are near.

Right, unfortunately. Where does Mitchell go from here? Where does Banks go from here?
Banks versus Arreola would be a good undercard fight on HBO. Banks against Helenius or Fury would also be good. Mitchell should take a rebound fight, but against whom?

Hahahaha you're a moron, Arroela smashes both of these guys. Banks would last longer but he wouldnt go 12 with a focused Arreola.
Re: Seth Mitchell vs. Johnathan Banks
Unfortunately it appears Mitchell has a glass jaw....and temple.
Good for Banks though, and despite Merchant trying to draw tears out of him in the post fight interview like he did to Katsidis a couple years back, Banks held it together and was very well spoken.
Both guys were classy after the fight.
Neither had a pray against either Klit before the fight, nor do they after the fight, but wish em the best.
Re: Seth Mitchell vs. Johnathan Banks
I don't think Banks will fight Vitali or Wladimir and it's probably a wise move.
If I'm Seth Mitchell I assess my career and think long and hard about continuing in boxing because if your heart isn't 100% into it then you will end up getting hurt. I think Julius Long would be a nice comeback opponent.
Jonathan Banks is a good fighter, he's got a chance to avenge his defeat to Adamek and I think that should be the A#1 fight he tries to make. At cruiserweight Adamek had the advantages but I think at heavyweight it could be a different story. Other interesting fights could be Boytsov, Cunningham, Dimitrenko, Chagaev, Povetkin. As the highest ranked American Heavyweight next to Arreola he can do whatever he wants.
