I agree, it was a wide margin. Most of the second half of the fight was straightforward to score. In evaluating the Mayweather fight I really feel that Mayweather has lost his legs and that is why he spent so much time on the ropes with Cotto unloading. In this fight Cotto had an opponent with his legs and he couldn't get close and thus couldn't really land effectively. Trout was definitely much better than I had previously thought. He did step up.

Id like to see what would eventuate with JMM at 147 or even a catch weight on styles it could be grand and real barn burner sea saw affair.
Good final cash load to be made for both of them in it too as mostly every fan would buy into it.

Good call. If Cotto can get back to 147 then why not? Cottos naturally bigger and would dominate on the inside but JMM is smart though to outbox and counterpunch his way to a points win.
Cotto and JMM would make for a great Puerto Rican/Mexican fight. With Marquez's new-found muscularity, he wouldn't even be undersized. Why not?
Re: Cotto v Trout post fight analysis, comments etc.
If Cotto could make 147 he'd still be there. He had to make 150 or 151 to fight Manny and it drained him so there's no way he could make 147 now.
The fight with Alavarez would have been a massive Mexico-Puerto Rico Cinco De Mayo weekend PPV. Not Mayweather or Manny massive but a big fight. Even though Cotto lost it's probably still a bigger moneymaker than Alvarez-Trout/one of the other top guys at 154. It's definitely the biggest payday Cotto is going to get so it may well get made.
Re: Cotto v Trout post fight analysis, comments etc.
Cotto is not a special light middle champion, his best weight was at light welter where he was a beast of a fighter. He carefully manoeuvred himself to win a title and fight some easy defences to build his confidence and get his revenge against Margarito. No shame for Cotto to have a good fight with Floyd and lose to Trout.
Cotto will carry on and try to maximise as much money as he can before he retires in 2013. Cotto would lose to Saul, Cotto could try and manoeuvre himself for another title but he is just delaying the inevitable that he needs to retire. Cotto did not show the fire and relentless pressure that he would have applied in a close fight to pull the victory.
I do not think Cotto can go down in weight he is in the comfort zone and does not have the hunger to fight at welterweight. (Pun intended).
