Re: How good was Edwin Valero?
I was also one of the ones that heard so much of Valero but put him on the backburner literally until last week. That's when I saw the DeMarco fight and he just beat the guy up..no special effects but pretty brutal. Shame we didn't get to see him in there with the elite to see how he would have fared. I imagine a skilled elite "boxer" would have left him hitting air but he's one of those fighters like Froch. You keep thinking he's crude, unskilled and one fight away from losing but then you give up betting against him because he keeps winning and winning impressively.
I didn't even know about all the shit with his wife until watching the Demarco fight when the camera panned to his wife at the end of the fight and thinking "Shit! She's gorgeous!!" and googled her...only to find images of her laying in a pool of her own blood with a stab wound in her neck :-X
Guy must have had some demons and that's putting it mildly.
Re: How good was Edwin Valero?
He had crazy power. One of the biggest punchers I've ever seen in boxing. He was an offensive guy with very little if any defense but that didn't really matter because of his insane power and ability to get those fast KO's he didn't need a defense.
Down the line of course he would have had to developed a defense as he fought better opposition. I believe he had the potential to be the next Pacquiao if not better because of his power. I would have loved to see that fight made. He could have been something special.
