I think Floyd is almost done too. If he fights someone like Martinez or Trout, then I think he will come unstuck. He is slowing down and getting hit a lot more. However, if he fights the likes of Guerrero then he will continue to keep his 0 and lose the odd round on the way.
Floyd is an old fighter now and fighters don't get away with being old in the middle and smaller divisions.
Men are like wine. Women are like flowers.
Men are getting better while women fade away.
just sayin' :newdb:
I think its unfair to suggest he's ducking any of those guys whether one loves him or hates him.
Martinez is a 160 champion and weighs about 175 pounds on fight night. Floyd is a natural welterweight and cannot be expected to jump that far up let alone be called a ducker for not doing so.
I've always suspected that he might try and accomplish what Leonard did by waiting out Martinez like Ray did Hagler but if he chooses not to, it will not effect his legacy outside of being part of the notes for these times. Btw I still think he will do it and with no catch-weights.
GGG. Another 160 and a virtual unknown and lets it real here, its simply an asinine fight for Floyd to take at this time in his career and I submit that if it were anybody else this fight would not even be brought up. Its simply a nonstarter.
Alvarez. I'm sure they have toyed with the idea at GBP but soon realized that such a fight would be the end of the new cash cow. In addition Floyd has said publicly many times over this past year that he desires to go back to 147.
Manny. Not even going to touch that. Nothing left to be said.
Never understood the ducking Pac thing.
Pac was given fits by JMM 4 times. All the things that JMM does that gives Pac fits... Floyd does better. And that's not even taking into account Floyd's athletic superiority over JMM.
Yup, have to laugh at the fact that Floyd somehow owes the boxing world to fight guys 2 weight classes above him.
No one gets on Nonito Donaire to fight Gamboa, or Alvarez to fight Andre Ward.
Floyd has grown all he's going to. His fights at 154 he always weighed in well under the limit.
floyd is the best:)
floyd is great but not an alltime great if ya know what I mean.
floyd wont make it halfway thru his 6 fight deal with showtime. man has fought once or twice in 4 years. how is he gonna fight 6 times b4 he gets to say 37 years old?
You are right and it is a bit of an exaggeration to claim he is ducking them but not much more outlandish than the claim that the only one who beats Floyd is himself. He is a fine boxer but he has stopped himself enhancing his own legacy on more than one occasion by postponing and avoiding anyone that might be in a position to take him out of his comfort zone. He waited a while for Mosley and Cotto before risking his 0, when in reality he could have handled the challenge when they were in their primes. It's not hating it's being a realist. Hopefully his new contract will see him keep a little busier and solidify his reputation by getting out of that comfort zone more often. He can handle it.
People store way too much emphasis on preserving that 0 and while Floyd may never change his attitude about that hopefully he will be followed by others who realise the folly of such thinking. The pantheon of greats is littered with fantastic fighters with more than 1 loss against their names.
I obviously disagree and im sure many others of the forum will back up the fact that mosley wanted no part of floyd in his prime as he had a little toothache.
Bob arum refused to let cotto fight floyd after he destroyed henry brussles in 8 rounds.
Floyd beats cotto and mosley in any era and what we will see tonight is another display of boxing perfection.
