Re: Great video of Greg Page knocking Tyson down 1990
The sparring knockdown against Greg Page was widely shown, but I don't remember seeing the cut, perhaps that part wasn't aired? But I have a little bit of brain-damage too though...
Re: Great video of Greg Page knocking Tyson down 1990
Even Berbick gave Tyson trouble in sparring for the Douglas fight.
And people claim that Tyson was in his prime and in peak form.
Re: Great video of Greg Page knocking Tyson down 1990
If 23 year old Mike Tyson wasn't in shape, then he wouldn't have lasted 10 rds with a 6'4" 231 lb man landing devastating straight rights on him all night long.
Folks should just get over making excuses for Mike Tyson's 1st loss...

That Tyson was not the same fighter that destroyed Berbick, Spinks, Biggs and others. There was very little head movement and his team were crap.

Really? This was all over the news and papers when it happened.
I remember where I was and what I was doing when I heard about it.
One of those moments you never forget, and I was only 5.
true i remember it was on the news. All I remember tho was the sequence where Tyson is falling but it seems they never showed the whole 10 second clip leading up to the punch and the knockdown.
Yes they only showed the clip not the full segment. Tyson and his team had their head in cuckoo land and they were all disorganised, not taking it seriously and thought they had the fight in the bag. Thieving gits nearly stole the victory from Buster.
Re: Great video of Greg Page knocking Tyson down 1990
Yeah, Buster did in fact get a long count when he was knocked down. The ref is supposed to look to the timekeeper to pick up the count, but Ref Octavio Meyran started his own count instead. Behind Mehran, you can see the timekeeper's white-gloved fingers at 3 when Mehran says "one."
Tyson a day or so after the fight:
"I knocked him out before he knocked me out." - Mike Tyson.
When Buster went down, he punches the canvas in frustration knowing he made a mistake and got caught. He watched the ref, taking full advantage of the count and got up at 9. Could Buster have gotten up when Mehran was at 6 or 7 as that was the real count?
Too bad they never rematched. It's a classic fight. One for the ages.

True, to add to it he had never tasted his own medicine either, no one was ever awake to try and serve it back till then.
Re: Great video of Greg Page knocking Tyson down 1990
Excuses, excuses.
The very nature of the sport means fighters going into a fight always have an injury or they're sick or there's a family problem or some other problem.
When they win while sick or injured, it doesn't seem to be a factor, but if they lose, people start with the excuses.
When the PRIME Mike Tyson knocked trevor berbick's brains out to claim his 1st title, Tyson was p!$$ing fire from The Clap which he picked up from some hoor somewhere. Didn't impact Tyson's performance nor preparation not one f*<kin' bit!
It doesn't matter.
For the Buster fight, Tyson was almost 24 years old, had been boxing since 12 years old, and knew the realities better than any fan of not coming in prepared. He knew his responsibilities as a fighter, and if you don't prepare, it's your @$$. People thought Tyson was invincible, but the man himself always knew better and knew he was just a man, and his own fears were inside since he was a kid, knowing these guys could tear him apart if he weren't prepared. He was ready for Douglas, you can bank on that.
If anything, it was Buster who had been sick, taking antihistamine medication for bronchitis.

I'm trying to decide if its more respectable and understandable that a Tyson like fighter fell off suddenly because they had one hard give and take war too many, he didn't, or that he just stopped trying and ran out of Tyrell biggs and Tony tubbs to smack around ;D
Re: Great video of Greg Page knocking Tyson down 1990
Watching some ESPN Classic of Tyson and there were many decent fighters that gave it a go, Tillis and Ferguson certainly were not intimidated. Buster probably was the best fighter he fought on that particular night he was exceptional, shame he never performed like that again. However Tyson nearly beat him but at his best I think he would have beaten Douglas convincingly.

The ref counted no faster for Tyson, i remember someone done a comparison video comparing the counts for both Douglas and Tyson. And they were exactly the same speed, i don't think Douglas was that hurt as you said he punched the ground more in anger rather than being dazed or hurt. And considering in the next round Douglas battered Tyson i don't think he was that hurt.
Here's the video i just found it.

Yes there were many that did and still got beat, so the myth that Douglas was the first to stand up to him and won is just that a myth.
