Yes BUT I don't think we can say Winky Wright "exposed" Felix Trinidad because Tito was a hell of a fighter in his day and fought at the very highest level vs some very good opponents.....Winky handed his ass to him, but I wouldn't go as far to say Trinidad was "exposed" simply due to how good he was before that fight. Same with Roy Jones Jr. & Tarver or Johnson.

Jeff Lacy was on the brink of being World Class and got the shit hammered out of him and never regained his former glory, never came close. I was one of the guys that bought into the Lacy hype too. I was so hyped for the potential of a Taylor vs Lacy bout and when it finally came, I was like "meh...I guess they might as well, but I'm not all that interested".


Dominick Guinn got exposed, Audley Harrison got exposed...those guys were at the very least supposed to be really good contenders and they even managed to fuck that up.

Tito's a bit different. He did not always plod in looking to land with his head incapable of movement. He changed from being a boxer puncher to mainly puncher just around the time of Carr or shortly after. Tito had issues with the jab and Winkys was like a piston and from the other side. He controlled the fight with it. Hopkins laid the blue print and it was he that capitalized on what Tito figured was his strength first. Just a bad style match up and Hop used the same tactics to beat two other plodders in Pavlik and Cloud. Lacy was a swarmer that never had the talent his record or hype suggested. Cal made him look like an amateur.

I attribute it mostly to hyped punchers and it lingers over the head of a young guy being billed "the next coming of blah blah jones". Guys who never fully develope and some crashing down never to really recover. Berto was a great example. His flaws were glaring early and was built up on a spongy foundation but maketed-matched well. I don't think Donaire was exposed but he was outclassed, he also got lazy with all the hype and hoopla.

Might sound silly but if Donaire got exposed anywhere in my eyes it was against Vasquez Jr. I know he won the fight but once Vasquez Jr put on the earmuffs and stopped leading it seemed as though Donaire got lost. He didn't go to the body because he couldn't and it seemed that although he's got great power his punches were very "stock standard" in that he couldn't improvise and change the trajectory of his shots. He was trying to counter Vasquez's jab with the pull counter straight right but once Vasquez started bringing his shoulder to his chin Donaire couldn't tweak his counter and turn it more into an overhand right. I'll probably cop some flack for this because he just won but I see the same thing with Canelo. Great power and physicality but there's something robotic with his actions, a lack of fluidity that will get "exposed" against a guy who doesn't just fight in set moves but sees rounds as whole sequences and can therefore improvise (plus has the defense to be able to take the time to feel out the fight). That's why I don't buy into this whole idea that Canelo is the man to beat Floyd. I think he'll hurt him a few times but once Floyd understands the path of his punches he's going to look like the tin man.

Something was exposed in 2002 when castillo beat him and got robbed in the decision. Couldn't agree more really. Another thing that annoyed me with fans reaction to Donaire is people saying he was overrated and his career is based on beating up smaller guys. What a crock of shit. The guy made 112, 115, 118 & 122 and was rightly considered the #1 fighter in 3 of 4 of those divisions. He may have had a size advantage on opponents, but give the guy credit for using his size to his advantage. For me he is still one of the best in the world, he was just beaten by a guy who had his number that night.

What we discovered was that Rigondeux is a world class fighter, not that Donaire wasn't. I said it in another thread but saying Donaire was a hypejob only discredits the huge achievement Rigondeux just pulled off. If Nonito was overhyped, does that mean Guillermo is still untested? Should we still be labelling him a prospect? No, he's the man who beat the man.

Rigo got good exposure by beating the most active world championship fighter 2012 in Donaire. The fight was close but I would hate to see a rematch however.

Nice write up except the Marquez comment. PBF used an above the weight tactic and came in extremely larger than JMM at his normal walk around weight. In addition JMM had no clue how to put on the weight. I Would love to see a rematch at 147 with no foul play and soon before they both get older.

It's another way to say that a fighter who was expected to win or at least do much better, was shown to have serious holes in his boxing skills.

I like "he was exposed", I know instantly what the writer/speaker is talking about, no matter what sport or job he is talking about. Somebody came up short, very short of expectations.

Yesat the weigh in then ballooned up even more, the cowardly bastard did not even try to lose the weight. It was more a case of JMM being a man and still fighting despite the handicap and PBF bullshit strategy. PBF should have tried to lose the weight after all he is the attractionl!

Rigondeux is a world class fighter and its Donaires own resume that came back to haunt him. He is what he is until he avenges and beats Rig, beats Mares or Mikey Garcia. I do not even have him beating Gary Russell. A four fight schedule against mid level opponents earns him fighter of the year please ......... then he takes cue from Pacman and uses Pinoy excuses after losing .

He agreed to 144 and weighed in at 146 and was about 148 at fight time. Whats this ballooning you speak of? Marquez was probably heavier at fight time.
