Because I think people like you should be made to realize how stupid you are, as hitting a nerve is exactly what you intend to do. The bravery in it is due to the fact that gays have faced, and still do face ridicule. The public acknowledgement is a counter attack against that ridicule. You don't need to parade around your own orientation and preferences because no one is talking down to or calling heterosexual people names.
