Come on, all the saddos that said it was a lucky punch speak up now or the mods will name you.
I was one, add in all the variables
1. He looked like he was going to get knocked out at anypoint.
2. When has Marquez ever knocked anyone out cold, he has never been a fighter with great punching power on any level.
3. Pac has fought fighters who have hit harder and he was able to take there punches just fine, it had been a while since he had even been down, this defied the odds.
Maybe Marquez timed him perfectly, but to knock him out cold after looking all but defeated was luck.
There is no such thing as a lucky punch in boxing. How can it be luck when the whole point in boxing is to hit your opponent? It makes no fucking sense.
In football when someone throws a hail marry in the end zone and its caught is it luck or not because the pass is thrown to be caught, in basketball when a player shoots from the other end of the court and makes the shot is it luck or not since he intended for it to go in, since you don't like to use the word luck lets replace it with miracle.
Are they throwing Hail Mary's all 4 downs? Are they taking half court shots every single possession? No there not. Marquez said before the fight he was gonna go for the knock out. And from the first round you can see he was going for it. Fuck getting robbed. He was gonna knock him out this time. And he did.
Yea there have been many times in Marquez career where he said he was going for the knock out and then knocked the guy out cold.
Said Juan Diaz would finish the fight on his back. Diaz finished the fight on his back. Said he would be the first to stop Casamayor. He became the first to stop Casamayor. Said Katsidis wouldn't go 12 rounds. Katsidis didn't go 12 rounds. Said he was tired of getting robbed and would knock out Pacquiao. He knocked out Pacquiao. It's not luck. It's greatness.
Re: Marquez did NOT land a lucky punch.
There was some luck involved with THAT punch because Manny was practically "by it"!
Manny doube feinted (huge no no in boxing) then fell in and his right shoulder was almost touching Juans! Juan was late lettng it go but the results showed it was on the money!!!
The move is practiced by every countermover/counterpuncher against an agressive southpaw so its not a lucky circustance!!! However Manny aided Juan by making three mistakes in sequence and paid the price!!!
The punch had a little luck to it!!! Nothing wrong with some luck! Ray.

Absofuckinglutely! You train your whole boxing life to hit someone else, you hit or you miss and this time Marquez finally hit! There is no luck in boxing, hitting your opponent is the whole point. The real skill is trying not to get hit, Marquez landed a shot that he has trained his whole life to do. He trained, he fought, he hit and he won.

:vd: If he doesn't have great punching power, then why does he have 40 knockouts out of 55 wins?

You are getting far off the point, in none of those other fights was he close to being knocked out and he knocked his opponent out cold with one punch, I am sure he was looking for a knockout in all of his fights that did not mean it happened.
At what point was Marquez remotely close to getting KTFO against Manny in the 4th fight?! cause guess that was on the alternate version

At jmm's nose but not close to what point was Marquez remotely close to getting KTFO against Manny in the 4th fight?! cause guess that was on the alternate version
was there a Pacvision version because I did not have the glasses on. Yes he busted up JMM's nose but was not near KO ing JMM and the fight was close to a draw at the time of end of the fight. JMM had put Pac on his ass , spun him completely around then tucked his ass in bad and said good night. Where is the mention of this? Pac had busted that nose and had a flash KD that had no ill effect on JMM. However the tide was changing towards Pac's favor. What you can not account for was that JMM's punches were having a greater propensity to end the fight. Pac was cutting JMM's face up but the fight was really being fought at JMM's pace and distance for the desired JMM outcome.

Fighters who hit harder? Who the hell has Pac fought with supreme one punch power? Rather then discrediting JMM . Margarito, Hatton, Cotto, ODLH, Mosley, EM, MAB, Bradley ....... none of them had notorious 1 punch power. The question is how many months does it take a Pac nut hugger to come to his senses from dream / denial land? At least Pac finally woke up .....

Look at all those 'lucky' punches!
Re: Marquez did NOT land a lucky punch.
That was an not a lucky punch, he intended to land the right hand and knock Manny out as he has tried to do to every other opponent in his career. He timed it beautifully.
Re: Marquez did NOT land a lucky punch.
Nice video of the sparring that was a sweet right hand that put the other guy down, swap they 16oz gloves for 8oz and lose the headgear and that guy would of not got up.
Re: Marquez did NOT land a lucky punch.
I never understood the idea behind the "lucky punch". If you try to smash your fist into a guy's chin, and you DO smash your first into a guy's chin, how is that lucky? You accomplished the EXACT goal you were trying to.
A lucky punch would be if Marquez slipped on a wet patch in the canvas, and while flailing his arms, his glove hit Pacquaio and knocked him out. That's luck.

Wow can you believe this guy. I never thought much of Richard Schafer's eye's for boxing but he's one of the guys who think Marquez' punch was lucky lol
" And you look at number three on many people’s list, Juan Manuel Marquez, who lost every second of every round against Floyd Mayweather and frankly, with Manny Pacquiao till he landed the lucky punch. So does that make him number three pound-for-pound? I really don’t think so.”
- Richard Schafer
