Re: Groves refuses to "sell soul" to fight Froch
Its all about momentum, the only way George Groves keeps hold of it is by securing a rematch with Froch so him playing hard ball doesnt look like a smart move to me. If he fights anyone other than Froch the arsehole will fall out of the interest thats built due to fight one. We'll all watch of course regardless who he fights but a rematch with froch would go beyond us idiots.
To me everything hinges on him beating Froch in a rematch. If anything other than that happens I wouldnt mind a fiver on him sliding into obscurity in the next couple of years. Decent fighter yes, but the only thing thats colourful about him is his hair.

People (Once their memories are jogged) dont forget a rematch like this with 2 Huge domestic rivals ...
Benn v Eubank 2 was massive and was 3 years after the first fight happened.
Of course a rematch will happen sooner or later and if Groves brings a belt into the equation its gonna be a bigger event all round.
Groves appeals to IBF over purse split for Froch rematch | Nottingham Post
aye, but benn eubank 1 was pretty decisive
Re: Groves refuses to "sell soul" to fight Froch
Benn and Eubank were both still in their 20s when the rematch happened. They both went unbeaten after the first encounter and both held "world" titles. Froch is coming to the end of his career. Groves has became a face to the non-boxing nerd soley on the back of Froch. If the rematch doesn't happen sharpish it will never happen.
I actually think Froch will win the rematch. Could Groves possibly hit him any harder or cleaner?
Most importantly though, Groves was fighting his usual style but at a much faster pace. I think it's quite clear he was struggling with the pace as that fight went on. And I think it's highly unlikely he could ever get such a massive headstart again. The element of surprise is gone.
Re: Groves refuses to "sell soul" to fight Froch
Froch is saying that the Chavez fight would be PPV so he's thinking it might be as big an earner as the Groves fight or close to it. But the exchange rate is well against him, there's a glut of shit PPVs in the States over the next few months and Chavez got booed out of the ring by his own fans last time out and has never headlined his own HBO PPV before.
Groves obviously has a lot of self belief to do what he's doing. He'll have paid the IBF a significant chunk of change for this "review" that they did and he's got the belief he can beat Froch and make more money as an independent down the road than he can by signing for Matchroom. I'm not sure he's right about that one.
I think Froch wins too next time out but seeing as I hate Froch and would love him to lose I'm going to pick Groves to beat him. Blocking punches with his chin is going to catch up with Froch sooner or later. If he does fight Chavez next hopefully Froch has at least one more decent fight in him though. :)
Re: Groves refuses to "sell soul" to fight Froch
David Haye promoted successful fights with his own promotional company on various platforms including Sky PPV. He went to them with the Fury fight. Haye and Fury were both available to do a deal with Sky and the fight was a big fight that Sky wanted to do on PPV, but Sky told Haye he had to do a deal with Hearn and basically become a Hearn fighter or the PPV couldn't happen. Groves needs this fight on Sky to make the most money he can so he has to do a deal with Hearn for at least one fight. If he beat Froch and was actually a viable PPV draw in the future he'd need to work with Sky again.
There's no way Box Nation could outbid what Matchroom could come up with if this fight goes to purse bids. I thibk this is just Warren fucking with Hearn and Sky.
Re: Groves refuses to "sell soul" to fight Froch
That's exactly why the fight wont go to purse bids. There's no way Matchroom/Sky/Froch would risk losing the fight to another platform.
Anyway, Groves would need Warren to buy the fight for around £10m quid just to recieve what he's already turned down at a 15% split. Good luck with that. Two hopes...

If Froch doesn't give him what he wants he'll be remembered as the man who ducked George Groves not the man who got a tko over him thats joe public for you.
Groves still gets a title shot that he'll win then has way more bargaining power to taunt Froch some more.
Master is bang on.... Groves is being very clever here ;)
Groves is being a dumbass here not clever-he wants a rematch and has been offered one along with the biggest payday he will have ever had or is ever likely to get at this stage in a career. The hype surrounding Groves is embarrassing and he is being judged by one good performance-personally I dont see what is clever about pursuing the mandatory route when he will be entitled to considerably less of a purse for a fight he has already been offered!
Your totally missing the point fella ;-)
Groves will easily beat Brandon whatever his name is and take the belt.
He also knows he's got Frochs number second time round, Froch can only fight one way ;)
Are you saying that when Groves is a World Champion and he fights Froch he wont have more to bring to the table when it comes to negotiating a deal?
To be honest I think maybe he is getting some "off the record" advice because the way he's trying to hustle is exactly the way Adam Booth does.
And the one good performance you mention just happened to be his first real test against one of the toughest fighters in years and look what he did... floored him in the first then owned him round after round.
Trust me if that KO in round 1 was 20-30 seconds earlier we wouldn't be having this conversation :)
What I am saying is for this fight he has the opportunity to make a massive payday and if he doesnt take it, he might not get the chance again, George is just a decent fighter who had a good night-no more no less-so he should cash in whilst he can!!

Thats serious money right there and Warren has his own outlet for tv.
Obviously other channels across the world are gonna want in too.
More money...sponsors etc...more money.
If this is the next fight for both fighters then its at its peak hype wise and a massive event.
Just saying :)
It would likely happen at the City Ground and Groves is the Contender....he brings nothing else to the table but his smug Ginger Mush!!!
Just saying!!
Re: Groves refuses to "sell soul" to fight Froch
I would love it if the fight was won by Warren on Box Nation for free on their subscription channel.
