Re: This weight issue is getting ridiculous
It's not can't make the weight, its wont in a lot of these cases. The majority are the heavy, pun intended, favorites and seems like a slew of hbo house fighters. I seriously think they factor in the fine money in a purse and frankly when you can throw money at a problem as sandwiched in between possibly two massive pay days ya really can cope. Also cut this hidden 'unofficial' weight bs and announce what they are actually in the ring as compared to weigh in. Audience deserves to know what unannounced catchweight they are really watching. I mentioned the point dock awhile ago and there has to be a penalty other than financial. Something that impacts the actual fight. It's completely disrespectful to all involved. Spoiled fat hefers.

I have seen some guys fight at 145 lbs and come in nearly 160. Gatti was a chief offender at it and hurt a lot of fighters in the process. One guy he fought, some Gamache guy, he nearly decapitated the young man- and the Gamache guy was a former champion.
It's wrong... I see end all of this and re-classify the weights. Because on the other side of it as well, some of these weights are unnatural in today's standards. Humans are bigger... much bigger these days. Asking a 5 ft 10 guy to make 154 continually is a bit of a stretch- it isn't natural, and thus, adds to the studies out there with regard to brain injury and dramatic weight loss and weight draining for fights.
Re: This weight issue is getting ridiculous
Gatti did make weight, this is unprofessional from Canelo. lost respect for him a bit here. Saul is too small for middleweight. He better get his motivation to get in condition and make weight, otherwise he will not be the golden boy.
Re: This weight issue is getting ridiculous
Boxing is slowly climbing into the reality tv genre with the weight bullshit in almost every big fight. Its beyond pathetic. They should just add another 17 divisions.
Btw Alvarez was never fined. The contract read "154 plus one" which is unbelievable in and of itself.

Its def more of a theatrical soap opera. Sometimes I feel like I'm looking at a room of crying toddlers when they start in with the .0001/4 lb silly shat. 154+1 ffs...sounds like something my nephew would say when asked how old he is while holding up one hand and saying "I'm this many". At 23 years old you should be able to burn a lb as some after thought. Big fooking baby.
Didn't Alvarez do this in the Hatton fight also in some other catchweight bs ???

Yet another hbo bout with a heavy favorite looking for a bigger show. If they didn't pull the plug on the show when Broner literally said on camera "fuck ya'll, I'm not making weight" and slap the network and fans in the face, they will never cancel a match because of it but instead let a guy who whipes his ass in a Popeyes bathroom with $20 bills to swindle some backroom deal and pass a check to an opponent who can in no way at all afford to walk away from the payday and fight. Decked staked even higher and future showcases assured. Its pathetic. There is no accountability.

Gatti notoriously came in overweight... very much overweight. Check the Gamache fight and the fight before that and you will see how he over did it....
Re: This weight issue is getting ridiculous
A move back to same-day weigh-ins is the answer combined with an increase in the fine.

Very true.. gatti was known for coming in overweight but he rarely got criticized just because he was Gatti, the blood and guts warrior.
What he did against Gamache was straight up criminal and he should have been charged for it..
How can anybody shit on chavez and not do the same to gatti? Smh
Fuckin double standards in boxing.
Re: This weight issue is getting ridiculous
Will Canelo move to 160 after this fight?

Canelo is a tweener so he's stuck in a bad place right now..
Can u imagine him competing against the likes of GGfake and Quillin? I cant.. at best, he can beat stevens but even that is no guarantee imo..
Canelo can for sure beat rosado though since he sucks but that's about it..
Mayhe gbp will attempt to establish a new weight division in honor of canelo.. like 157 lol...

i agree. i dont think that canelo could step it up against the top fighters at 160. he is fortunate that 154 never had anyone that good in it and that he rarely fought anybody who was actually in that weight class.
Re: This weight issue is getting ridiculous
there could be some sort of three strikes rule
if you miss weight so many times in big fights then you cant fight in a chanpionship fight for so long or something
it isnt the first time canelo has done it
i know it would never happen like
Re: This weight issue is getting ridiculous
Weight classes are pretty much irrelevant these days. Since most belts are nothing more than selling points to get fights they are also pretty meaningless. So what you are left with is private contracts and negotiations with no definitive rules as far as weightclasses are actually observed. Unless there becomes a global governing body that can enforce rules we might as well get rid of weightclasses altogether.
