My girlfriends kid Theo is addicted to Minecraft , spends hours on it and school wise he's pretty much top of his year in most subjects.
Very clever for an 8 year old.
The graphics are terrible but its pretty cool to see a kid into a game that he can learn from rather than one where he has a shooter , fast car and can go round on a killing spree ;)
My understanding is that it is a digital version of Lego but with strong element of 'crafting' involved.
