If Hearn fancied Brook's chances he would have put the money up and got the fight in Britain. It could have sold 10 000 tickets and got a decent cheque from Sky. But he got his fingers burnt paying Crawford to come over to fight Ricky Burns and doesn't fancy the same thing happening again.
I see your point but I'm not sure its good to suggest that underachieving against Jones transfers to Porter. I'd be more worried about how he handles the crowd and atmosphere away from home. He could easily fold in the dressing room mentally before he even walks in like Bute did in Nottingham.
Maybe all involved in his lagging career after all the hopes have said that its time to shit or get off the pot and figured they might as well travel for this opponent. I'm not a fan of the guy in least but I have this feeling he may be a guy that fights as to the occasion that has looked mediocre against mediocre opponents.

Well after seeing every ones comments my interest for this fight has grown. Lets hope for an exciting fight.

take the first carson jones fight away and kell brook has looked anything but mediocre
yes it has gone on to long without really stepping up
Re: Kell Brooks first loss on the way.
Yeah Brook looked a lot better in the 2nd Jones fight (even though I though the stoppage was a bit English).

awe mate, no chance
if anything jones could have been stopped a couple of rounds before
kell took his foot off the gas and let him off the hook, I think the ref could have stepped in

Crawford had to come over he was the challenger and the B-side. It would have been Top Rank doing their bollocks if they paid for Burns to go Stateside.
Porter is the champion, he has GB/Haymon/Showtime behind him, he publicly stated going to England was not an option. If the fight had gone to purse bids he gets 75% of the pot, I doubt even Fast Car could win a purse bid against that lot when they are intent on backing their man.

I just think Porter is a hell of a step up from Carson Jones. It definitely doesn't help him fighting away from home either. And if what Khan was saying about Brook worrying if he's ready to fight Porter then that's a lot of negativity for him to be carrying into the ring. I don't think he'll fold in the dressing room though, maybe during the fight when he realises Porter isn't going to stop coming at him.

Look at the people he was fighting when he wasn't looking mediocre. Move him up a couple of levels, which is what is going to happen in a couple of weeks, and let's see how he looks.

If Hearn fancied it he can let the fight go to purse bids. If he wins and Porter refuses to fight in England Brook gets to fight for the vacant belt. If Porter decides to fight after all Brook gets the fight at home.
It's all down to how much money a promoter is prepared to back his guy with, innit? It's a financial gamble to bring Porter over but if Brook goes to the States and loses what does he do then? Another half a dozen final eliminators for another belt?
