Re: Briggs could be next for Wlad
Why not Briggs? We all know what this is, it is a pay off fight for an aged fighter- this isn't the first time it has been done, nor the last time.
For Briggs being even moderately in shape and still wanting to be in the game, he deserves a shot.
Tua deserved a shot too before he damaged himself by not talking himself up.
Briggs at least talked himself up.

A lot of it has to do with the beating Briggs took against Vitali in his last real fight, which was years ago now. That was a curb stomping, he didn't land a single punch all night and Wlad is harder to hit than Vitali, Briggs punchers chance would be about the same literally any HW who wasn't completely shit would have, VERY slim.
Do you really think Briggs could beat Stiverne, Jennings, Fury, Povetkin, etc? I'd pick Wilder over him also but I grant you he is no more qualified. I don't think BRiggs could beat Steve Cunningham, Mike Perez, Mansour, I wouldn't be surprised if he lost to Chagaev or Arreola. He just doesn't throw anything any more. I'd bet you all of those guys would be more than willing to fight him, but Briggs won't fight anyone half decent unless its Wlad, so he can get some money to retire on. That tells me he isn't even taking himself seriously.
Oh I hear ya. He has not really beaten any name but this division is stale and half the guys you mentioned are semi retired or attempting to milk their domestic system. Jennings decided not to fight again this year because he claims to have a shot at the winner of Wilder/Stiverne. Beating Chris is ok but Stiverne cant touch Briggs overall pedigree. The fact that him and Arreola were fighting for a vacant title to begin with leaves a lot to be desired. He's not really doing anything wrong in his attempts to get a payday and one last kick at the cat. And my friend this guy has already paid his dues and then some.
I think he possibly beats most of those guys mentioned. Most of them are lazy sob's that yack off on twitter, back and forth on press jibs generating all kinds of heat but no light whatsoever. And even if he cant beat say a Perez or Povetkin, that should not make any difference. Just because he loses to them does not mean he loses to Wlad. Why haven't any of these pretenders errrrrr contenders challenged Briggs to a fight? Perez is drunk on Ireland and it took Povetkin 3 years to grow a set of balls.
Its odd that Stiverne is a title holder and even odder that Wilder gets a shot at it by fighting 32 guys like thishttp://i203.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps64yso9z0.gif and yet a man like Briggs that has worked his ass off and been in with the best is mocked for going after Wlad even though Wlad has fought a swath of no hopers for the last 5 years. A Briggs fight actually makes a couple of neck hairs stand up which has not happened over this division in quite some time.
Re: Briggs could be next for Wlad
Briggs should not be next for Wlad, there are plenty of better and more deserving fighters. It would send out a wrong message that you can publicly harass the champ and you will get a fight with him. At least Haye earned it.

Exactly! It's rewarding a negative behavior!
Re: Briggs could be next for Wlad
Klitschko-Jennings in works for spring - Dan Rafael Blog - ESPN found in heavyweight fight schedule thread....
I wonder if jennings and klitchsko will be able to make a deal on the money front
Re: Briggs could be next for Wlad
I like Bryant Jennings, but he's even less of a threat to Wlad than Briggs imo. He's to small, not enough power, not rangey enough etc. Can't say he doesn't deserve the fight, but I'd give Jennings a decent chance to beat about anyone else in the division and almost none here, hope it doesn't happen.

I read an article in the ring about Jennings, how he worked a job and boxed before the Perez fight. He sounds hard working and humble but said even though he started late in the game he has a lot to learn. That does not sound good enough to fight Wlad.

He's a far more well rounded fighter who has proven stamina, chin, not to mention actually earned his shot than say a Wilder. And in all honesty when has being good enough to fight Wlad stopped him from meeting more than a few of his recent challengers ??? ;D
Re: Briggs could be next for Wlad
I think jennings is the best of the contenders that would be available to fight next spring in america on hbo jennings is the best of them, although that doesn't really say too much.. He is not old or overweight and is coming off two pretty good wins against actual contenders(although the perez result was pretty close) . Whether he is a threat to wladimir is another matter though but I think wladimirs team is looking for someone who isnt a big puncher so wladimir can do what he did to pulev again and look good for hbo. Briggs seems to be back weighing at 260 pounds(same he weighed v vitali) so I dont think it would be easy to put on a crowd pleasing ko against the big fellow.
also jennings is going to be the mandatory so it is one way of getting him out of the way and wladimir getting to the front of the wbc que...Jennings is in a pretty good position he can make a fair bit of moeny from this, good luck to him !
