On paper, Cotto is at this point fighting a bigger, stronger, younger version of himself. Unless Roach somehow changes him into Benitez over night then you have to give the edge to Alvarez.
But what of the intangibles? The fight is almost bigger then both of their fights with Floyd in many ways and Alvarez still comes to a complete stop to throw a power shot. The atmosphere, the pressure. Maybe Cotto switch hits? These are the kinds of things that can lead to the unexpected.
If I were a betting man I suppose I'd take Alvarez even though I'd be cheering for Cotto.
Ps. The weight thing again is ridiculous.
Cotto needs to vacate that title.
reading this post brought me back down to reality...I suppose Alvarez, but my heart is with Cotto.

He plays the methodical boxer..the wait and watcher and isn't all that agile doing it. Even Angulo was landing wobble balls near end while resembling a guy just tied to the bumper of a monster truck. I'm not totally convinced he can box his way over Cotto and equally not convinced he has faced the punch and mentality of a Cotto, one he certainly had not with defensive minded Lara, Trout and Mayweather. Then again Canelo will top in around 180 so who knows ;D
90% chance that would be the case, and if so..... it's a mighty big hill to climb for someone whose best weights were 147-154.
