Re: Why the double standard?
Pac's "shining moment" wasn't the win over De la Hoya it was when he thrashed Ricky Hatton in 2 rounds....THAT is when people took note and were like "Maybe he could cause Floyd trouble"
But you know, be extremely difficult to get a deal done with and follow that up with being an asshole and soon you start to wear thin on people.
Listen Floyd has done some horrible shit outside the ring and he's done some great very generous things outside the ring...I don't think 1 recuses him of the responsibility for the other and I don't really factor that into my like/dislike/appreciation of Floyd.
Manny has typically been just a more happy go lucky kind of guy, humble, no nonsense, stable outside the ring. Whereas Floyd seems bipolar, he wants love and adoration but he thrives off of hate just as well. The thing that really irks me is that pre-fight Floyd will shit all over a fighter and post-fight he'll big up them like he just beat Ray Leonard or something....you can't have it both ways, either the fighter was a bum and beating them was no big deal OR the fighter was very talented and to beat them you had to be at your best. Why that notion never sank in with Floyd or his fans is beyond me.
I'm not a Floyd fan, I'm not a Pacquiao fan, but I've followed the careers of both and all it's done for me is make me sick of their fans and hopefully soon both sets will fuck off for good.
Re: Why the double standard?
Manny is a much more likeable guy than Floyd, but I think the big difference is that his fights are much more fan friendly.
People loved Tyson and he was absolute garbage as a human being back in the day. They wanted to see him murder a perfect gentleman like Lennox.
If you can entertain people you can get away with a lot of shit I think.
Re: Why the double standard?
Good stuff. You would almost think that hate for the guy was part of some peoples genetic makeup or somehow through media they are hard wired to do so. Its all about the public spilling over to the private.
Imagine boxing from its beginnings had we had the kind of twisted fucked up total connectivity of today?
People cant seem to watch the sport for its own sake. Sad really.
