Jerry Quarry was real hard on two sparring partners at the Main St gym. One was Ken Norton; KO'd him once with a right and once with a hook to the liver.
The other was Mike Quarry. He would smash him. Jerry fought for awhile with a bad back. He hurt it fighting in a bar when Mike tackled him into a jukebox.

Mike has dropped to the #10 WBA Light-Heavyweight, and needs a win to get back
on the 'right track'.
Mike's last win was 9-Months ago, on April 3, 1972.
Paul Kasper is a 'club-fighting' journeyman from Maine, and fits the bill.
~ Mike Quarry Wins In Orlando ~
Mike wasted little time in the Opening Round, and went after Kasper with a series of
left-hooks to both the head and body.
At the {1:45 Mark}, Mike landed '6' good left-hooks in a row, and Kasper went down for
a '6-Count'.
Pail Kasper survived Round 1, but in Round 2 he was battered by Quarry. The Maine
journeyman ate lefts-and-rights to the face, and had his nose bloodied in the process.
Mike 'staggered' Kasper at the {2:45 Mark}, and after tagging him with another barrage
Kasper's legs buckled. At the end of the Round, Paul Kasper's eyes were 'glazed'.
Somehow the Maine journeyman survived Rounds 3 and 4, as Quarry continued to
pepper him with lefts-and-rights.
In Round 5, Mike continued on the offensive, and battered Kasper with a volley of
punches to the both the head-and body. At the mid-way point in the session, Mike
unloaded with a hard left-hook to the head, and Kasper went down in his own
Corner.
Paul Kasper got up at the '7-Count', as he staggered to his feet. The Referee allowed
the bout to continue, and Mike attacked with a 'blizzard of left-hooks', as Kasper
reeled into the Ropes.
Referee - David O'Hanlon then jumped in, and called the bout over at {1:45}, and
awarded Mike Quarry a TKO 5 win.

Ray 'Windmill' River
Ray Miller was a 'balding' 34 1/2 year-old Light-Heavyweight from Ventura, California.
Ray, a Carpenter by trade, is a popular fighter in California. A 'true' fan favorite.
At 6' 4" and with a 78" Reach, Ray did look like a 'Windmill' fighting, as he was 'all arms'
flailing.
The Ventura Light-Heavyweight had been a Professional since December 1958 {14-Years},
and compiled a record of 42-12-5 with {11 KO's}.
Ray was a tough-guy despite is frail-and-lanky frame, as he had only been stopped 'once'
early in his career {4th Pro bout}.
His unorthodox-style includes a 'Bag-of-Tricks', like leaping up in the air and punching, jumping
around in the Ring like a Gymnast, and using a 'tricky' behind-the-back punch.
'The Windmill' was the California State Light-Heavyweight Champion {Won Title on March 2, 1971}
and had defended his Title '7-Times'.
And since November 1970 > Ray had only lost '3' of his '20-Bouts', by going 15-3-2.

This thread makes no sense. How can he both need more time to work on his craft and at the same time be in decline from his mini wars and hard sparring. It can not be both.

Mike Quarry was in control throughout the early Rounds, and worked his way inside the taller Ray White.
The World-Rated Light-Heavyweight hammered his 'tall opponent' with left-hooks to the body.
But during the middle-Rounds, the Ventura-based fighter kept Quarry off-balance by jabbing away with
long-looping left-hands.
Quarry, at {5' 11"} and fighting with a {5"} height disadvantage, tried to work his way inside and hammer
the lanky 'full-time' Carpenter with left-hooks to the body. And several times, Ray White folded over like a
'Tent' in a heavy wind.
But though Quarry controlled the first 5-Rounds, he had to take numerous left-hands to the face from his
taller opponent during the middle-Rounds.
Quarry's face was very 'puffy' by the middle of Round 9, and the local Anaheim boxer had the look of
frustration in his face after taking several long right-hand counters to his right-eye.
In a 'wild' Round 10 > Mike Quarry came in low and hit 'Windmill' with several border-line blows. In retaliation,
White 'bit' Quarry on his shoulder when they were in close.
To counter that, Quarry then thumbed White in his right-eye.
After seeing the 'fouling', Referee - Chuck Hasset moved in and told both fighters >
"Hey, I'm not going to put up with any more of this Shit."
But, the Anaheim-based youngster re-grouped and had a 'solid' last 2-Rounds to 'nail down' the Decision over
the 'unorthodox' Carpenter from Ventura.
Surprisingly, though Mike Quarry was the local from Anaheim, the 'majority' of the spectators were cheering
for the 'awkward visitor' Ray White.
And the local 'Press Corps' sided with the Ventura-visitor, as he had an entertaining-style. As Mike's style
does not make him a favorite with the fans.

22 year-old Light-Heavyweight - Mike Quarry is now in the hands of New York
Fight Manager and Trainer - Gil Clancy.
The young Light-Heavyweight from Anaheim, California > left the West-Coast for
Florida in March of this year. Mike was promoted by Pete Ashlock of Orlando.

{19-Days} earlier in Orlando, Florida - where he went '10' brisk Rounds.
Mike is now ranked as the #3 WBA Light-Heavyweight.
His opponent, Hal 'TNT' Carroll is a gritty puncher, with a low-attacking style. Hal is from upstate
{Syracuse} New York and the 9-Year Professional is a capable fighter.
Surprisingly, as a New York resident, this will be Hal Carroll's {1st Bout} in New York City. Hal
has been 'idle' for the past 5-Months, and last fought in November 1972.

~ Carroll Earns Draw With Quarry ~
World-Rated - Mike Quarry and Syracuse veteran Hal 'TNT' Carroll battled to a 10-Round Draw
tonight.
Quarry, who entered the Ring as the 'Favorite' at {5-2} found himself up against a 'strong-and-cagey'
veteran in 32 year-old Hal Carroll.
The 'fast-handed' Quarry got off to good start, by landing repeated 'snappy' left-hooks to Carroll's head
during the first 3-Rounds.
But soon, Quarry found himself getting 'out-muscled' by the veteran, and backed-up after getting rocked
by solid left-hooks to the head.
When the fighters 'traded-blows', it was Carroll's punches which carried more force. The Syracuse veteran
fought out of a 'low-crouch', and only had the top of his exposed for Quarry to target. After Quarry would
fire, Carroll would come up out of the crouch and slam in a hard 'left-hook' and straight 'right-hand' into
Quarry's head, and then go back down into a crouch while covering up.
This 'bob-and-weave' tactic of Hal Carroll's was very effective during the middle-Rounds.
In a heated Round 7, both fighters got into a 'wild' toe-to-toe slugfest. Then suddenly Quarry let go with
a hard punch that was 6" below Hal Carroll's belt-line. The punch went into Hal's groin area. Immediately
Hal 'doubled-over' and turned away. Quarry somewhat bewildered, failed to follow-up.
Referee - Harold Valan called a 'Time-Out', to let Hal Carroll walk off the low-blow. The Referee also took the
Round away from Mike Quarry.
When the action resumed, Quarry tried to box from the outside, but he was unable to use his quick-footwork,
as Hal Carroll was accurate with his 'long-range' punches.
Hal Carroll went flat-footed over the last 3-Rounds {8, 9 and 10}, and took the fight to Mike, preventing
Mike for using his usually 'quick-footwork' and forcing him to fight in close."
