I loved punk since I was a kid but I was NEVER a punk rock kid because I wasn't into the "punk" attitude or the politics of punk... I just love loud, FAST, aggressive music.
And to me the first true punk song was The Monkees' Stepping Stone!

I hate politics in music that's part of why I love Crass' 'White Kids on Hope' it just rips The Clash and their whole bullshit politics apart.

I think The Sonics are CRIMINALLY overlooked and underrated in the history of rock/punk

Good shit Lyle. I had a friend send 'The Village idiot' and Head on backwards to me over the Holidays. THAT was way before its time, the crudeness but cutting wit of what people think of when they think punk. They had fun with it...the cuts, the improv and just run with it attitude. There is a graveyard of 60's 70's pre modern that cut an individual path that cannot be bottled or packaged in what people traditionally think Punk-rock-metal-blues-garage etc. should be or is. Covers of covers and off the wall originals. Sonics are among many who were all of the above.

Never Mind the Bollocks - The Sex Pistols
Iggy and The Stooges - Raw Power
The Clash - The Clash
Lots of other post punk/rock/punk derived music, but for me these albums contain the message, attitude and sound of punk.

I love Raw Power and Fun House. Their concerts were fucking crazy back in the day.
