Re: prime Jersey Joe Walcott vs muhammad Ali
Look Closely
That is Cassius Clay getting his 'ass' dropped by a quick countering left-hook, which
was Jersey Joe's specialty.
Look how pretty those 'White Shoes' look as they are lifted off the canvas.

People Forget,
That Jersey Joe Walcott,
To get fights to make money, he was told to 'take it easy' on the local guy. This cost Jersey Joe
many bouts.

"The only way I could get bouts {to make money for my family} was to basically make the
local guy I was brought in to fight, to look good."
"Money was more important than wins sometimes. If I lost, I got another bout. If I won, I
ran the risk if sitting around for awhile. Things were different back in the 30's and 40's.
Wins weren't as important as getting bouts."
"It was like this." > "Hey Joe, we got a bout for you against 'so-and-so'. If you do the right
thing in this one, we have another bout for you over here against 'so-and-so'."
"You didn't have to be a Brain Surgeon to understand what that meant. So you take the
fight, and try not to mess up the guy, and carry him. And when you lose, you just smile
and get the paycheck."
"It was simple economics."
