Benn and Eubanks fought one another on 18 November 1990 and 9 October 1993 with over 42,000 crammed Old Trafford for one of the biggest boxing events ever staged. The bout was watched by half a billion people worldwide.
Both Benn and Eubank fought at middleweight and super middleweight around the same time in 1985–97, and became rivals on both the domestic and world boxing scene.
Benn won his first 22 consecutive bouts by knockout, earning the moniker 'the Dark Destroyer'.
Eubank was the cocky, flamboyant upstart who began calling out Benn after his tenth bout.
The rivalry became legendary when these two of Britain's opposites went to war in the ring and transfixed a nation
I loved Eubank, he got me interested in boxing. I remember watching him in the Benn rematch and just strutting round in the face of one of the most dangerous fighters in the world and just feeding off the baying crowd. The man is hard as nails and fearlessly unbreakable. He didnt give one tiny little fuck what anyone thought of him and rode his harley with johdpurs and a waist coat. He would snarle at the crowd and stand like a statue posing at them. He was inspiring to me. I loved how unbending he was.
I didnt like Benn, I found his attitude was tiresome but I grew to very much respect him as a fighter as I got more and more in to boxing and realised what he had accomplished.
Both very very good fighters in their own right but Eubank was a little too adaptable for Benn. Both would have made good fights with Jones and Toney regardless of what anyone says.
I read an interview with Tyson in the ring magazine in around 96, he was pictured in his mansion with his white Tigers and he was asked what he thought about Jones and what Jones was saying that he has no decent potential opponents and Tysons reply was that yes he does, theres Nigel Benn! A side note, Eubank used to visit Tyson while he was in prison.
I couldn't really disagree with that more. Both total warriors, but Benn won the rematch for me and was more fearless, he just didn't have the chin. Eubanks cared and still does care desperately what people think of him, the guy is a phony caricature and one of the most annoying people on earth. Neither would have had a chance against Jones or Toney either imo, Eubank doesn't even tell anyone differently himself!
You think Benn was fearless, he was but how many boxers do you see allowing world class fighters like Benn
free shots and standing in front of them proper full on posing during a fight.
You may also think he cares deeply what people think about him. Eubank is far away from conformity as you will find. He is from the real ghetto. He doesnt talk or act like a thug, he likes to project an image of a gentleman and must be the most eccentric sportsman britain has produced. Eccentric people dont give a shit what others opinion of them are.
Yes Eubank JR did the same against BJS , and lost on points.
Thats just opinion. He didnt lose, just like Benn didnt win the rematch;)
The record books say BJS won the fight , that's all that matters.
Re: Saddo Poll - Benn or Eubanks
Benn deserved to win the rematch and he won the tv show that means he was 2-1 up in my book.

So Eubank all day long;D:cool:
Re: Saddo Poll - Benn or Eubanks
Benn was my favourite but I never disliked Eubank. Eubank basically fought to the level of his opposition, so there were quite a few dull 12 round fights, whereas Benn would tear the the head off similar opposition.
I don't think there's anything phony about Eubank. I think a harmless eccentric is a fair description of him too. Mad, sometimes annoying, cringeworthy but he can take the piss out of himself too, as the hilarious "Youth Hostelling with Chris Eubank" shows.

He thrived and still does on being different.
Re: Saddo Poll - Benn or Eubanks
I was a massive Benn fan back in the day.
I liked Eubank too, but it took me a while to warm to him.
They were both exciting and must-watch fighters in very different ways. Their rivalry is probably the biggest and best in boxing history. Throw in Watson as well and you had a very exciting British middleweight division.

Yes but this is a poll on who people preferred , no surprise that Benn is winning.
Re: Saddo Poll - Benn or Eubanks
Tough one. Their styles were as different as their personalities. Gun to my head Eubank. I think he did carry a few fights and had a few duds but I think that was so he could show off. His ego was every bit as big as his skills as a fighter. Joe C is my favourite super mid of all time but he did catch Chris near the best before date if I'm honest with myself. Btw Roy was the most talented but didn't really stay long enough to be considered the best ever. Speaking of Roy, there are about 3 people I can think of that may have been able to beat the guy in that 60/68 area and Chris would be one of them. I think its safe to say that the best version of Chris would have shown up for that fight.
I always felt robbed/cheated as a fan and still do that Roy never fought Benn, Eubank, Watson or Collins.
All of them equal in the blame game.
Re: Saddo Poll - Benn or Eubanks
Benn was my favourite - one of main reasons I got into boxing.
I think Eubank had the edge head to head between the two but I think Benn achieved more in his career with wins over more marquee opponents.
I became a big Eubank fan at end of his career though and attended his last three. Met him a couple of times very likeable chap. Unlike Master
Re: Saddo Poll - Benn or Eubanks
I voted Eubanks, simply the best, liked his style a little better than Benn. Benn could be a dirty fighter at times. Eubank had a cool half balding flat-top too.
Re: Saddo Poll - Benn or Eubanks
Loved Nigel Benn, a fighters fighter. Always delivered entertainment and danger and fought as if he hated judges decisions. One of the most aggressive and big hitting fighters I've ever seen ..... and knocked out big names in their back yard.
I've nothing at all against Eubank. Made the most of his talent and one seriously tough s.o.b. Awkward style, and an intelligent fighter in the ring. His purpose was to win, never mind how, so he would mess about, fiddle and stink the joint out if he had to. He never ever turned up in anything less than peak condition, so an excellent pro.
I've met both of them several times, and don't have anything negative to say about their personalities.
One thing; Benn was never a true super middleweight. Look at his relative size to Eubank and others when he fought them. His power was the big equaliser, but he did follow the money and the big fights into a division higher than his natural weight.
