When it comes to market place no matter the product, America is the Bullseye on the board, if you hit it big in America you are SET. The Beatles had to come to America and get over with the fans in order to "make it", but Elvis Presley didn't have to travel the globe in order to be "The King" because he was born and raised in America and when he hit it big here nobody really cared how big he was elsewhere his celebrity was established due to his making it big in America.
A guy like Manny Pacquiao won over America and therefore he is/was a WORLD star....meanwhile Floyd Mayweather Jr. he made it in America, never had to travel, the money was always here for him. Ricky Hatton in order to make more money, get the big fights he had to come to America.....just the way it is.
People always like to say America has no culture, but we set the standard for the world....if the US ain't buying it, then it ain't worth selling.
This is the mythical thing that none of the rest of the world is buying. Most of what you call Culture is imported. Second hand, hand me downs from the German, Irish, British, Italian, French, etc. From the hot dog to modern art all of it happened because of immigration. You imported everything but your loud trousers :-X ;D

Seth Mitchell seemed like a nice guy but I never understood why people thought he was going anywhere. On the other hand, the US has had some great heavyweights, I would write them all but it would take too long.

1. America has underachieved in boxing????? Who gives a shit whom invented a particular sport. If it was England we are grateful and not jealous, thank you mother England and we are sorry about that whole revolution thing. It got out of hand. And I think you guys invented the stock market, or was it the Dutch, either way thanks, I made some money. Despite what you may think we in the US like Britain and would always be there if the white hits the fan. I do believe boxing came about in England, much appreciated. The world is full of shared knowledge. Isolationism is a bad way to go. God save the queen, I really hope to visit England some day.even if the feelings aren't reciprocal, we like Britain and are fascinated with your history. I really like the history of your Navy, good stuff.
GOD save the Queen.

Really? OK I guess the makers of Avatar, Titanic, Jurassic World, and The Avengers were all from......oh wait those are American films, damn ;D .
Michael Jackson's Thriller, top selling album of all time
Mark Rothko, Jackson Pollock, Jasper Johns, Andy Warhol, Barnett Newman, Thomas Eakins, Cy Twombly....all Americans and all very successful artists who have sold paintings for amounts of money that could buy Hawaiian Islands.
Mark Twain, Ernest Hemingway, William Faulkner, John Steinbeck, J.D. Salinger, Melville, Hawthorne, Ray Bradbury, Kurt Vonnegut, Truman Capote, Tom Wolfe, Walt Whitman, Jack London.
America INVENTED jazz, invented the blues, invented rock'n'roll, and we invented punk you thieving bastards!
....ahhh but none of this counts because we Americans, we "stole", we "culturally appropriated" our standing in this world, did we? But you British, you earned it all right? You never stole anything? Never appropriated anything have you.....not ever?
Go watch some British sports on your television that was invented by Philo Farnsworth.....AMERICAN or use this internet created in part by Robert Kahn.....AMERICAN. Or turn on your lights which if they aren't compact fluorescent were invented by Thomas Edison....AMERICAN....or the compact fluorescent lights invented by Peter Cooper Hewitt....AMERICAN. Or you can fly over here and kiss my ass......made possible by Orville and Wilbur Wright (first in flight), Charles Lindbergh (transatlantic flight) and of course Howard Hughes (first passenger airlines to deliver transatlantic flights)....AMERICANS.

I'm not doing a US vs Britain thing. The US has great talent across many sports. But don't run down Britain. To borrow from myself when comparing the UK to Canada...
Aside from Cricket, Rugby and Football as our 3 main sports Britain has....
Had more Formula One (the pinnacle of international motorsport) World Champions than any other nation in history. Current Champ too.
Dominate Cycling. Both on the track and, in recent years, on the road (won 3 of last 4 Tour De France).
Dominate Sailing - Top every Olympic Medal table for 3 or 4 Olympics in a row. And Ben Ainslie will be winning the Americas Cup in 2017.
Have dominated Triathlon.
3rd in last Olympic medal table. Behind the giants of US and China.
Had a couple of male Grand Slam Tennis wins in last couple of years.
Have a very good Athletics/Track & Field pedigree.
And that is just a few highlights from top of my head. And bear in mind the vast majority of our youngsters head towards Football, Cricket and Rugby. Football is a regular let-down and recurring national crisis, but in Cricket (despite us taking the piss out of ourselves) we have won 5 of the last 7 Ashes and for the last ten years have more often than not been ranked in the top 2 in the world. Rugby we are right up there. World Cup starts this month so we'll see.
So, I think it's fair to say that given our size, given our spread of sports, Great Britain does pretty damn well. In fact, you'd struggle to find a country that does as well across such a breadth of sports. I'd only think US really.
In the last few years alone Britain has had multiple golf major winners, tennis major winners, 3 TDF titles, 3rd in Olympic medal table, multiple F1 champs, multiple Ashes wins, Triathilon champs. Pretty much success in all of the major international sports. If only the damn football team could do something we'd finally be happy over here ;)
And this isn't anti U.S Lyle as you have many great athletes across multiple sports and fantastic systems in many, it's just pro-GB....and I just like to rant.
Anyway that's me gone guys. First log in for ages. Loads going on to deal with at the minute so fare well and I'll drop in a few months.

Stop turning my boxing thread into an off-topic thread you bunch of cunts. It wasn't about America vs the world is was about the journey of non-American fighters making it big in the sport. Americans can spend their life at home and be rated as "great." Fighters like Golovkin have to do a world tour to sell himself yet still gets criticism - "he's never fought anyone."
Yeah, well guess what, it's been a little bit harder for him to climb the ladder.
And to post "America is where the money is that's why." Really? Who would have known? Fucking thread title posters.

I thought it was an interesting post and would wonder what you think is the disadvantage of a lot of the non US fighters having to fight in different countries? I would say the majority of the time they fight away from home they are the "home fighter" in that they are the main attraction and the shows promoter fighter. For example all of GGGs fights in the US were run by his promoter. Pac v Mayweather Id have thought the majority of the crowd were cheering for Pac.

I think having a home base is much more advantageous to prepare for a fight than travelling all over the world.
Andre Ward would most likely beat Kessler, Froch and Abraham wherever they fought. But he's never been coerced out of his comfort zone.
Floyd-Pac - If that fight happened in the Philippines Pac would have probably won. Would it have been a robbery? Yeah. But Floyd has a loss. And again, he's never been in an other fighters backyard.

I'll assume Thor is calling the shots on this one.
Re: American fighters are born with a silver spoon in mouth. Home advantage. Fact.
Well I will admit that Americans tend to be on the prideful and boastful side (which is one thing I hate about Americans and I am one). With that comes the idea that we don't have to go anywhere else because we are in THE PLACE for sports. We have our sports that we are good at and for those, you come here. It's like basketball. Everybody knows that the NBA is the best basketball league in the world by far. We are also big into American football which most other countries don't do.
With that said, most people aren't growing up thinking to themselves, "maybe one day I will get good enough at a sport and travel and live in England so that I can play there." But people from other countries say that about America. The world knows it so big events like boxing are held in America because most countries are connected to it.

True.....but about those big time British boxers that never quite pan out?
