Pretty Boy Floyd Money Mayweather TBE ATG P4P & PPV KING
Haters keep on hating cause Mayweather is laughing all the way to the bank with a brief detour to be inducted in the HOF.

But in the back of our minds and as history has shown..the majority come back and with the command, fame and capital I think its a certainty Mayweather will do it again. Sad..not so much. The man is a craft master and defensive wiz regardless of if you like him or not. He's obviously had great influence to many young guys under his wing and a few with some serious promise. With Mayweather behind the scenes and off the stage its time for a new era. Be fun to watch.
I feel the same way but.......
Maybe a year from now they will set up the lark for him to come out of retirement to face the winner of Cotto/Alvarez for the middleweight title. Like I've said for years, just like Leonard. Difference being that Ray actually fought the real middleweight champion. Oh I know there is a contract for the upcoming winner to face that other guy but we both know what that means, diddly squat.
The WBC is famous for their situational ethics. Besides can you imagine the numbers?????? That other guy would probably get 5 mil to sit that one out unlike the 6 figures he settled for for Cotto/Alvarez.
There is simply no way that he goes out in a ceremony like that. He's got way to big a head. No way is that tie with Marciano good enough for that ego even if its downplayed. The whole thing reeked of disingenuous. The praise of Al Haymon and the entire gig suggests it was not the last. It was Reality tv. Look for something big in association with Haymon by about this time next year for May 5th of the following one.
The production of the "announcement" dwarfed the build up and actual last fight. He leaves entirely on his terms, contract fulfilled and a division that is in need of sorting out. I can see him trying to duplicate the post Hatton scenario. He didn't pick a Marquez on division standing, it was all about the P4P talk and market tag. Have always said it was a backdoor back to headlines. Oh and another where he refused to step on scale after weigh in. Within a year Alvarez can be right back off Cotto win (?) but do we really think he'll stay at middle? Mayweather will let the Thurman, Porter, Garcia, Ali, Brook, Khan, Spence, Bradley.. can easily see Crawford easing into welter also, sort out and he'll pick his spot for record breaker return 50th.

The good thing is that we get away from the mayweather sweepstakes and hopefully get the best fighting the best. It's weird how such a good fighter can hold a sport back (not money wise but good matches wise). There will be a gaping hole at welter that must be filled. I'm excited about that.
I'm sad because for me, mayweather is really the only fighter left from when I started watching boxing. I consistently starting watching it in the year 2001 and there are still fighters who are fighting that were once good (like Jones or Mosley), but mayweather has literally been a big name in boxing since I started watching. So its kind of an end of an era for me. From now on, I will see when people begin their careers and see them end it.
So I'm happy to see him go but kind of sad because of nostalgia at the same time.
He will be back. Just needs a break n to drum up massive interest in a comeback after the pacquaio letdown n fan backlash.
I started watching boxing right around the same time and I feel you there.
Judah, Tzyu, Mitchell, Hatton, Mosely, Oscar, Forrest, mayorga, those were all exciting times at jr welter n welter.
I'm guessing Mayweather will let someone else become champ, then he'll come out of retirement and challenge him. Another big payday will be at hand.

Re: Sad and happy about floyds retirement
I am glad that Floyd is retired and I am past the nostalgic stage because Tyson was the end of my era so I feel old.
Floyd is an ATG boxer but not TBE. He is safety first boring as hell to watch and for the obscene money he gets paid he should do more to entertain. I feel he has cheated us out of the real big fights and fought in his comfort zone. For the amount of money he was paid he should have fought Martinex/GGG for a record middleweight title and Manny 2009.
Floyd will be back next year when people have forgotten how he has bored us to death and cheated us out of the big fights that should have happened.

For the millionth time, he agreed to the fight, Manny agreed to the fight. Floyd did what he could do, the fight was on. Stop trying to rewrite what happened by saying it wrong over and over. What happened was Manny backed out. Understand? The fight was on and Manny backed out. Floyd gave us the fight, Manny didn't. They hid Manny for years acting like THE guy to get rich. They always knew he couldn't beat Mayweather. You can't beat Floyd with no jab. They knew that and that's why they were all smiles like "can you believe we pulled this farce off for so long, amazing the fans ignored the literally hundreds of times we were caught in lies perpetrating this rouse". I honestly feel bad for anyone that can't recognize Manny is predictable and doesn't have the tools and never had the tools to beat Floyd. It was exactly as Floyd always said it would be and that is why when it was first proposed Roach said "we can't be ready for Floyd by March, we could be ready for Clottey" and they fought Clottey. Just pay attention to how they react initially, not what those liars say after they have had time to think.
Pacquiao and his fans are a lot alike, very simple minded.

You are right he never fought Martinez, but then nobody fought Martinez, not even Cotto when he was falling to pieces and had a little hole in the back of his head where you could see through his eye.

When you are the best ever you are open to scrutiny and not fighting the other top fighter of his generation at his peak is a massive hole in his legacy.

Theres footage of this..it was never floyd running.
Whether he did or did not the fight never happened and that will count against him.

Maybe for you and the other Pactards. But for anyone with a brain Floyd will go down at ATG TBE!!!
Re: Sad and happy about floyds retirement
So many idiots in this thread.
Floyd May drew more money and recognition to the sport than anyone since the days of Ali.
Now that he's gone others will have to pick up his slack.
Happy Retirement Floyd, T.B.E.
