The 17% wasn't power shots...I'd have to watch again...but he only landed about a handful of those.
Mayweather outlanded Gatti at something like 165 or 170 punches to some crazy number like 39 or 40. I have it in my DRBR post that I saved...but I am not sure that is 100% right.
Re: Zab doesn't have power
it was probably his jab that he used the first rond. aside from the knockdown he had a pretty good first round
Re: Zab doesn't have power
Not to say I wouldn't want to see Zab losing. But someone posted a Mayweather interview earlier, and after reading that interview from Mayweather I just want to see him get his ass handed to him and humbled.
Re: Zab doesn't have power
Name a time Zab has been focused for more then 5 minutes?
Like I said hes immature and needs to grow up, hes never fully focused I've seen 3 yr. old kids with longer attention spans then him.....I'm teelling you his dad carries and 'etch and sketch' to keep him busy in the dressing rooms during pre-fights.

The rematch with Spinks...I was greatly impressed with him then...& that's saying a lot because sometimes its hard to see past my hate for Judah...I really really do loathe him.
I think that he'll come 120% for this fight...but I just don't really rate him against Mayweather.

Hit the nail on the head. I don't really rate Spinks that highly I mean he ran from Mayorga for most of the fight and I think most where expecting Zab to win the first time around too. cc.

Yeah, I feel like that too, both are big mouth jackasses so want to see them both humbled!! However, you would have thought Zab learnt his lesson from the Tszyu situation but he has not. cc.
Re: Zab doesn't have power
Zab was humbled from that situation but Mayweather has yet to be humbled, we've seen Zab gets whats coming to him before, and I think it's Mayweather's turn.

Naw, I think Zab was just humble for like a short period after, he was back to being a jackass during the Baldomir fight especially during the press conference. I think it's a fact that all big mouth's get what's coming to them somewhere no matter how awesome they are: Ali, RJJ, Tyson so I guess it will happen to Mayweather somewhere?

Because Mayweather knows that he's been in the gym since he was three? because he knows that he's been trained by two of the best trainers not to mention both pretty good fighters in their on day? because he knows that he's good? He needs to be humbled? IMO That's stupid to say because there's nothing wrong with knowing what you're capable of doing...And I don't care who it is, no champion in the history of boxing was ever humble, because you have to believe that you great in order to be great and there's nothing wrong with knowing it or voicing it if you are. PBF is the truth and he knows and like most dominant fighters the only person that can beat him is himself (lack of training, or whatever)...being humble in boxing usually means you're quietly hoping for something that is not likely to happen i.e. a win over a great champ...
Re: Zab doesn't have power
Something people need to know is that kostya never just trained to be powerful, thats not how he got his ko punch. He got his powerful right from technique and timing. You time a punch perfectly then thats when its at the most powerful and i think floyd can do that and knock judah the hell out. Who the hell has zab really knocked out besides cory spinks? He knocked out Corley but everyone seems to be doing that these days, the rest like riviera and that are mostly bums. And thats what he thought baldomir was and he got a surprise, he might of been a bum but he came to fight.
Re: Zab doesn't have power
havent we already been through this? i cant remember gatti or corrales hitting mayweather with anything more than powderpuff shots. his chin has never really been tested. my money's on floyd but it wont be a walk in the park.

Thats funny, the scary part is, it might be true. But Zab can crack, more so at 140ibs IMO, he is a bigger puncher than Floyd, but his chin is brittle. Both fighters are more flat-footed at 147ibs, so it might be a little more competative than most people think, but I think Mayweather's defense is tighter and his chin better, so Mayweather should win.
Re: Zab doesn't have power
Angel Eyes.. it was 2 shots for Zab to put corely down. He was still stunned from the first when the seconds left landed. (Jab,straight, Corely clinches.. ref separates.. Straight left with no jab and corely falls asleep standing up and then crumbles and zab, on the follow through, goes over Corley and go sliding under the bottom rope.)
Zabs got decent power. However much of its generated by his speed and momentum created by his legs. His powers good at full extension. Hes gotta be moving as he throws much of himself behind his power shots. He used to coil and get good power on every shot. Now a days, he seems to coil less and lean more into those shots. He turns and leads more to get a little extra on the shot ... but the follow through is big and affects his balance a little, which is why you'll seem him stumble sometimes after a shot like the one I mentioned above. (chop chop tried to clinch a little, but zab was already a little off balance.) An extended byproduct of that is that zab will sometimes tend to widen his stance on the follow through to try and stabilize himself. This tends to leave him immobile from the waste down and he's momentarily forced to avoid shots soley with upper body/headmovement. Which is why he gets dropped on the seat of his pants (especially on counters) from fighters with not much pop.
He does still have power, but the way he throws his shots now carries a bit more liability than the wya he used to.
Mayweather, at his best isnt really a power house. His speed poses a problem, because before you know it, you've been hit. His accuracy goes a long way and he knows when to open up on a fighter. He turns it on and off as he likes. He'll work defensively till he sees hes got something and he flips the switch and becomes offensive. When hes offensive, he just piles it on and his opponents just cant seem to get out of the way. Floyds style of fighting also comes with liabilities. Floyd either fights offensively or defensively and the key is to catch him while hes changing. If your looking big opportunities when hes being exclusively defensive, you'll be hardpressed to find em. If youre looking for opportunities when hes offensive, you might have better luck, but they will still be scarce. Catch him in between provides the most room for landing on him because he hasnt committed to either offense or defense and hes trying to get that extra second to do so. At times like these, he tends to throw shots with mixed intentions and lack of conviction. Hes not trying to hit you to hurt you, he's trying get you off of him and gain some distance. While hes doing that, his arms are not close to his body, his shoulders arent rolling and he's setting himself up to be countered.
Re: Zab doesn't have power
I'd say he was a good puncher, but not a huge puncher. He looks like a big puncher against outclassed opponents because his reflexes put him in a good position for flush counters. Even in this situation he still needs a few shots. I don't remeber him devastating someone with one shot. I don't see him getting the opening he needs from Mayweather. People are also making a lot of the size difference. Do you remember how much bigger Kostyta was than Zab in the ring? Zab isn't a big welter. It's his ability not his size that have made him competitve at the weight.

Zab won a SD against Corley. But your right that timing a punch is key. Kostya is a master at that, but Mayweathers not bad at it either. I honestly think his most immpresive victory was over Mickey Ward cause he was at his best IMO. BUT that was 8 yrs ago.
