Re: 1973 Foreman vs 2008 Wlad Klitschko
1973 Foreman would terrify Wlad with his reputation and punching power (strategically, not personally, as Wlad is as courageous in the ring as the next guy)
Wlad won all his fights by controlling distance, dominating the centre of the ring with his excellent jab and then closing the show with his big right.
I think he wouldn't be able to dominate the centre of the ring against 1973 Foreman. Big George would come out like a proverbial train and Wlad would be in full retreat. Once Foreman has you intimidated in the ropes, and it's him who is initiating the engagements ..... Boom.
This might get interesting if it went past the seventh round. But there is no way that this does.
Quick, devastating knockout by Foreman ten times out of ten.

which fuckin wlad fights have you been watching?
he won by holding
X is on about the Haye fight and Wlad had an excellent jab.
Re: 1973 Foreman vs 2008 Wlad Klitschko
no, I disagree.
Wlad controlled distance really well. He used his excellent jab when he was in perfect range for it, and his opponent wasn't. He closed with the big right, or sometimes the left hook, when his opponent had been manoeuvred into place for it.
He didn't like fighting on the inside, andhe didn't let his opponents throw punches when they were in perfect range for it. He got around this by holding them excessively.
I agree he held a lot, but he did it as part of his strategy of controlling distance.
IMO, anyway.
Re: 1973 Foreman vs 2008 Wlad Klitschko
yeah he held every time they were anywhere closer than on the end of his punches

Tyson would have not allowed that to happen. therefore it is up to the opponents to work out a way to beat that style. That was something they could not do for 10 years and near record defenses.

very true
he managed to cheat his way to the title and then 10 years of defences
but the amazing thing is people praise that, the mind boggles
anyway fury did very well, im delighted that he won the fight and I hope he knocks him out next time
Re: 1973 Foreman vs 2008 Wlad Klitschko
I think people are confusing the the two versions of Foreman.
The first was clumsy and wild swinging powerhouse. The second was more measured better footwork, strong but less energy.
Foreman also got dropped and hurt plenty in the 70's by much lighter fighters than Klitschko.

Dropped and hurt by Ron The Beast Lyle is all. Came back and nearly committed a homicide in the ring.
He got wobbled by a skinny white bloke in the 5 man tournament, dropped by Jimmy Young and knocked out by Ali!

Getting hurt or dropped does not detract from a Fighter's greatness. But getting smoked and Sparked by lamon Brewster Corey Sanders and some other guy certainly does detract from any kind of greatness a fighter may be suspected to have
Ross is defending Wlad here because if he doesn't he feels it may detract from Fury's victory in some way. I disagree. What Fury did was remarkable, in that he did what no other fighter has had the intestinal fortitude to do in about a decade. But Wlad is still one of the worst HW title holders in quite some time, and I agree with eric, in that Wlad perfected the art of surviving by holding, mauling, clinching, fouling, and using other questionable techniques to neutralize dangers... real and perceived.
Fury beat a fighter who threw 19 punches a round, roughly one every 10 seconds.... landing 4, of which probably 3.9 of them were range-finding punches just to make sure his chin was out of harm's way. All credit in the world to Fury, for doing what I was dying for someone to do before Wlad retired..... either knock him out or humiliate him. Fury did the latter. Next time, I hope he does the former.
Re: 1973 Foreman vs 2008 Wlad Klitschko
Foreman had to power to knock anyone out so Wlad would be kinda fucked there. On the other had Foreman when he was younger was a dumb fighter with no form the guy got rope a doped by Old Ali and lost to fucking Young for god sake biggest underachiever in history of boxing. I kinda wish you could combine the smarts of old Foreman with the body of younger Foreman then you would have the goat. I mean who fuck is going to stop a young Foreman with a boxing brain you would be fucked.
Re: 1973 Foreman vs 2008 Wlad Klitschko
George foreman---- = ------- instant diarrhea
Re: 1973 Foreman vs 2008 Wlad Klitschko
Foreman fought like a Amateur in 1973. Wlad is not great but he is a well schooled fighter. Wlad would try to keep George at the end of his jab then tie him up on the inside. the moment Foreman slows down and starts to tire that's when Wlad would take charge. I see big George falling after 9.
