Re: Thoughts on Connor Benn
Connor fights like his dad in his wild years however Nigel was throwing A-BOMBS , Connor is throwing handfuls of gravel.
Power will be a problem for his camp.
Re: Thoughts on Connor Benn
I think he's vastly improved and is looking better and better. He's stopped trying to be his dad, boxes his way in nice and has terrific natural fluidity when letting his punches go. He's waffling about emulating fighters like Loma now - instead of tear-up merchants - so the penny has apparently dropped.
Now obviously his level of competition hasn't gone up that much, however, he's totally outclassing these guys now without putting a foot wrong or giving them a look in, which you would expect of any good prospect.
If he wasn't Benn's son, with Hearn and SKY you'd have to be a serious petty/jealous bastard to not be impressed.
Re: Thoughts on Connor Benn
Yeah he looked good. The right hander that he walked him into that started everything going was a beaut. That second knockdown was savage, should have been over then.
Re: Thoughts on Connor Benn
I said in the fight thread that Connor looked good and much improved, he's come a long way in a short space of time, he looked very poor when he made his debut but that is what you get when you make your debut with no amateur experience behind you.
I also said in the fight thread that it is hard to believe that he has only had 9 fights, I've just watched an interview where they are asking him about what he is learning from these fights and when is he going to step up, Connor said he isn't learning anything from them but at the same time you can't put him in with a 28 year old who is fully developed and experienced.
He's still a baby but he is certainly improving fast, still a long way to go.
Re: Thoughts on Connor Benn
So far so good. Needs to be his own fighter. He feels obliged to bring excitement - tough act to follow
What would we give for another Nigel Benn
Re: Thoughts on Connor Benn
He doesn’t punch like his dad. He’s had nine fights at a very low level and has already been the distance twice. The stoppages he has scored have been TKO’s so he’s no puncher and if you took away his dads power what would really be left? He’s not one for the future.

His dad had brutal power and maybe it is a good thing that Conor does not. It will allow him to develop his other skills and not rely on knockouts. At the highest level he will need those skills so maybe Conor acheives more than his dad did.

I doubt it. He’ll be British and commonwealth champion but that’ll be his limit. I can’t see him winning the European title let alone a world title, I expect to see him taking a lot of punishment when he steps up.

I think he will go further, with all due respect to Sam Eggington, if he can be European champion then Conor can too especially with sky backing him and his dad's name.

He’s had nine fights at a really low level so it’s a bit early to be talking European honours. Let’s see him in a competitive fight.

What would be left? A fucking massive heart and fearless desire. Don't underestimate that mate.

People overrate Benn’s heart, the man quit twice against Collins (from what I remember) whereas his rival Eubank had far more heart going to war with Carl Thompson twice! People overlook the heart and chin of Chris to suck off Benn who got banged out by both Eubank and Watson in his prime. Benn was the Black Gatti.

Likewise it is too early to say he will not be world class.
