I disagree. I don't think someone should be automatically given respect just because they have a vagina. That would mean if I'm in a room full of women they would automatically give me respect for having a penis. I don't think that's how things are supposed to work with equality. We garner our respect on our wit and wisdom which is why everyone loves me here @denilson200. I remember I had a few brief to and fro with missy about Khan who we both disliked so I had no issue with her. Then I made a brief comment in lyles feminism thread about us women using their influence and money to move forward women's issues in Muslim countries and my goodness she came out with this nasty diatribe against me like I had threatened to blow up the forum or something. I am happy to say Gloria Stienem has been doing just that. I wish missy no ill will but wow she can be nasty. I will mostly refrain from saying derogatory things to women but if I'm attacked in such a fashion by someone I had very little interaction with to begin with I will return in kind l. Having said that I hope she's ok but prior to leaving she alluded to the fact to many chauvinist pigs here so she was taking her ball and going home

There's such a thing as being too defensive, whether that's being a woman, being black ( @denilson ), or anything else for that matter. That chip on the shoulder makes it very difficult to have genuine disagreements in a civil manner. I've had my share of disagreements with Lyle, but I don't think he's seriously dissing ALL women with his feminist thread. He in fact makes some very good points. Apparently, some of us can't differentiate between REAL insults to women, such as referring to them as sluts and ho's, and frank viewpoints which may or may not coincide with other Saddo'ers. It goes back to my thoughts on extremes (which I've beaten half to death). They're ALL bad, without exception. Been here over 11 years now, and I can honestly say I only saw one or two posters who were openly sexist to the point of being demeaning. But one should not be scared to speak your peace in here. In a way it's that same type of extreme PC that many of us abhor.
